ASK Cubby – More Of Your Questions, Less Of My Answers

“Redcat quality

Dear Cubby

I have noticed Redcat picking up with new distributors and was wondering if you have had the pleasure of doing any product testing with any of there products. The reason I am asking i am in the market for a nitro truck/ truggy ( I miss the smell, sound and tinkering)but not looking to spend more than 400$. I noticed redcat has two 1/10 scale trucks for around 300$. I also noticed Losi eight T rtr for 400$. Oh what to do.

Thanks for your help
Erich”

Cubby- Yo hey Erich, thanks for taking the time to write in.

No, I don’t have a lot of time in with most of the Redcat line-up. On the plus side of things, I have driven their Team Redcat monster truck, as well as their Everest Gen7 Pro, extensively. Both of those vehicles are 100% hobby grade and right up there with the best in their respective classes.

As far as the rest of their product line, I can not vouch for those. I do know if Redcat has made a lot of changes in just the past couple of years. I’ll fire off an email and see if there is another truck or two we can try out.

The nitro Losi EIGHT-T RTR is a solid truck. It isn’t a high-end race kit, but it has all the good suspension and chassis geometry of its racing predecessors. I have gotten in quite a bit of time with that truggy. Power isn’t crazy, but there is still plenty of it and the 8IGHT-T platform holds up to bashing extremely well.

“The new TRX 4 kit and Bronco body

Hey Cubby,

I wanted to write in because I’M DYING! ….figuratively.

Ever since the news that the Traxxas TRX 4 kit version and the Bronco body was released, I have been dreaming of driving my childhood dream ride. I am in the market for my first scale crawler and that was going to be the one but news on that front has gone silent. I have been eyeballing other crawlers but I don’t want to buy one and then have the Traxxas released the next week. I ordered a Proline ‘81 Bronco body for my Slash to hold me over but it’s just not the same.
I was hoping you, with your connections, might know if the TRX 4 kit and Bronco body is coming sooner or later?

Thanks for all your great info.
Jon from the Yukon”

Cubby- Thanks for writing in Jon, email me your snail mail for a sticker pack.

What you readers don’t know is that Jon wrote this in a few weeks ago. We now have seen the Traxxas TRX-4 Ford Bronco at the Nuremburg show (we posted a ton of pics yesterday) and it looks even better in person than in the pictures. I think I once wrote in a Cub Report that the rc industry needs to look out if Traxxas were to ever get serious about scale detailing, and well, they have. A couple years ago if I had been asked if Traxxas would be a leader in scale realism by 2018 I would have laughed. But now, with trucks like the TRX-4 and their new Unlimited Desert Racer, Traxxas has shown the world that you can have insane bashing performance, plus all sorts scale goodness.

Oh, so to answer your question. So ya, Traxxas is showing the Bronco in Nuremburg this week. I did not hear an expected ship date, but we do know it is coming. And typically with Traxxas, they usually get to shipping a product shortly after its full public announcement.

That’s it for this week, for better or for the worse. Email me 24/7- thecubreportrc at gmail dot com.
