Those championship winning chaps at AKA just aren’t content to sit on their laurels and keep raking in the trophies.  And you get to benefit from their endeavors.  Their new R-Line series of unmounted and premounted tires feature their new, softer (and red) closed-cell foam inserts.  AKA makes the claim that these new inserts are made to stand up to big bumps while still maintaining it’s shape during hard cornering. The premounts come glued to AKA’s versatile Evo wheel.

Every tire that AKA makes for 1/8 buggy and short course truck is available in this new line.  Prices start at about $25 for the unmounted and just under $40 for the premounts.

Check out the AKA website for more info.

New from AKA, just in time for the IFMAR World Championships in Pattaya Thailand are these new Soft Buggy Inserts. Gil Losi and Mark Pavidis put their brains together to come up with a new groove setup that allows for more stability and bit around the track.

aka pre-mount tire
News from iHobby, AKA just announced they will be releasing all their short course (SC) tires pre-mounted on their new CYCLONE SC wheels! The WISHBONE, ENDURO, GRIDIRON and CITYBLOCK will be available in soft and super soft with wheels to fit Traxxas, Associated, HPI, Jammin’ and Kyosho. I dig the pre-mounts.. let someone else glue their fingers together!

In the spirit of reaching across the aisle, here’s a little bit of racing news from the guys at AKA.  They recently had a very successful run at the 2010 Sidewinder Nitro Explosion event held at Thunder Alley Raceway.  Sean Gaffney took the win in the Sportsman Buggy A main running AKA Gridirons in the soft compound.  Colin Herzig rolled across the finish line in first place with the Enduros in soft and the new Evo wheel bolted on his ride in the Intermediate A main.  In the big time Expert main it was Cody King taking first and Mark Pavidis (seen here) getting third.  Cody used the AKA Enduro tires on Evo wheels and Mark had the AKA Impact tires in medium compound also on the Evo wheels.

So as they say what wins on Sunday sells on Monday Tuesday, so go check out the AKA web site for more info on these tires and hit up your local hobby shop to get some.

New from the dream team over at AKA are two 1/8 scale buggy products! First up is the IMPACT Buggy Tire. The design has a dense square lug pattern with offset lug rows in the center for serious traction forward and two outer rows for high bite turning. The IMPACT is based on AKA’s ENDURO and WISHBONE tires and were built and announced for the IFMAR World Championships coming up next month.

The second product is the new EVO buggy wheel. Now that people seem to be going to stiffer inserts, the wheels were actually too soft to hold up under the pressure from 1:8 scale buggies. The EVO design helps fix this issue with a concave face instead of convex, and then the new insert that not only helps block dirt from getting into the grooves and throwing tires off balance, but also stiffens the complete wheel by supporting it from the inside.
Initial testing seems to be positive on these products, and they should be available to the general public sometime in November.
You can also check out a video interview with Mark Pavidis talking about the products on LiveRC’s Youtube video.
