This is a product I know a lot of people have been waiting to see! The RPM Savage Flux Skid Plate! As bashers, we seem to land on stuff a lot, and that giant opening to the transmission seems to be where things end up going more often than not, so the new skid plate will solve that issue. The skid plate fits perfectly between the chassis braces so there’s a nice smooth transition to keep things from getting caught up. At a price under $15, every Flux owner should have this installed.

Another HPI sneak peak! This time it’s the HPI Savage XL with a Brushless Flux Conversion! We don’t have a lot of information at this time, but it looks like for all those Savage XL owners (we love ours) if you want a Savage Flux without dropping all the $$, then you might still be able convert to one!

You can hit the HPI web site , but there isn’t any info up there yet that we have seen.

There’s a lot of news coming out of the HPI camp today, but probably the biggest of it all is a new and less expensive version of the Savage Flux!  The new Savage Flux 2350 is still built on the same awesomely awesome Savage X chassis that the Flux HP is built on, and it still shares many of the same great features, and it will still do standing back flips.  The big difference is in the power package.  The Flux 2350 comes with a Flux Q-base ESC and Alphastar 2350 brushless motor to form a system that is built specifically for 4S (2S+2S) LiPo power.  That’s not to say you have to use LiPos, you can still use two 6-cell NiMH packs if that’s all you have.  But considering that HPI says that the Flux 2350 on 4S is FASTER than the Flux HP on 4S, I think you’ll be wanting to bite the bullet and make an investment in those LiPos.

The Savage Flux 2350 comes out of the box RTR with a HPI TF-3 radio system featuring the high torque, metal geared SF-5 servo to handle steering.  MSRP for this moster is going to be $889.00, significantly less than the Flux HP’s $1,149.00 list price.  It should be hitting your local hobby shop’s shelves soon, if it’s not already there.

Check out the HPI Racing web site for more info.

Have you ever thought that your Savage Flux just isn’t big enough?  Maybe you were jealous of all those Savage XLs out there.  You know the ones… they flaunt their longer wheelbase like it’s going out of style and aren’t ashamed of it.  Well now you can dress up your Flux like an XL and enjoy all they attention they get.   HPI has a wheelbase conversion set for exactly that.  It’s a set of new chassis plates, fashioned out of 3mm 6061 aluminum, that you can quickly and easily swap in for the extra length you desire.  The complete set includes an extra long center dog bone, some new wide stance axles, and all the screws and such to make the swap.

Kershaw Designs‘ got some more stuff for you to peep at today. A lot of it is for you HPI Savage and Savage Flux fans.

First up is KD’s redesigned Velcro battery trays. They’ve been revised to accept battery packs up to 51mm wide now and they’ve been made tougher too. You can get them in a flush mount version or a version made specifically for all the Savages, including the Flux. These fancy ones will run you $29.99. Kershaw’s also got a new simple Velcro tray that is available for only $7.99.

In bigger news KD is also bringing the Savage 5T conversion chassis to the Flux. It’s a simple chassis plate swap that will let you mount a HPI Baja 5T body on your Savage Flux, effectively giving you a brushless electric 5T. The chassis is made of 3.2mm aluminum and it will stretch your Fluxes wheelbase out to 22.1″. The conversion also includes extra long center dog bones so that your motor can actually drive the wheels. Otherwise it’d be kind of useless. Look for the Savage 5T conversion chassis in a few weeks and expect to pay $149.99.

Lastly the KD boys have a revised version of their Savage Direct Drive brushless gearbox for all those Savage nitro to brushless convserions out there. There’s a whole lot of minor updates in this new unit, including longer motor mount slots that allow you to use a larger range of pinion gears, toughened up black spacers, stronger gears, and it’s been given a cosmetic makeover as well providing cleaner lines. Version 2 will be out in about three weeks and you’ll need $99.99 in your bank account to complete the transaction.

Hit up Kershaw Designs’ web site for all this and more.

I don’t buy the rc mags. Am I cheap? Maybe so, but normally I fill up on mags for free at trade shows and races. Today, a good friend of mine told me “You gotta see the new issue of RC Driver!”, so off I went looking for it. RC Driver had been pulled off the shelves of my local Barnes and Noble, Wally Worlds, and grocery stores a couple years ago, but one of my LHS’s used to keep stocking it. I march into that LHS looking to get my hands on an RC Driver, but guess what? Even the LHS stopped carrying it. I live in a very large metro area, and I couldn’t lay my hands on an RC Driver magazine today if my life depended on it. Any wonder magazine sales are down?

I did come across the latest issue of Car Action though. I always loved reading product shootouts growing up, that’s why I’ve pushed for more of them not only here at BSRC, but across the entire market of media outlets. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it a “weird” coincident that both R/C Car and now Car Action have had shootouts since The Mighty Cub Reporter first announced the BSRC Traxxas Slash LiPo Battery Shootout? To digress, the Car Action shootout of the Traxxas Slash and the Associated SC10 could have been written without ever laying a hand on the trucks. No facts, and all opinions following politically correct stereotypes. Any wonder magazine sales are down? Consumers want the no bullsh!t facts, not more of the “dont’ piss off the advertisers” writing.

Horizon released another teaser for a new Losi truck last week. This time they encouraged readers to join the Losi forum to get exclusive clues to what the truck might be. Oh boy, that must have been one suit filled meeting in the Horizon offices to suggest that idea. The internet needs another message board like a hole in the head. A manufacture website should be like a fancy glossy brochure, pretty pictures of hot new product, not a place for every internet commando to sound off on how lame said new product is.

Speaking of pictures and magazines- this industry needs some good rc photogs. Handing 10k worth of photo gear to the average magazine guy (or manufacture rep) does not equal good pics. Yes, for sure, getting epic images of speeding lil’ rc cars is not an easy task, but it is possible. And by “epic images” I don’t just mean “clear” photos, I mean photos that positively portray the speed, the g-forces, and the true excitement of our rc’s in action. I can hear the mag photogs laughing at this, but some people do care about the beauty of an 8th scale exploding a berm or a Savage Flux nearly throwing it’s tires off the rims on 6S.

I hear the people at ROAR sit around hitting refresh all day waiting for the new Cub Report to come out. Thanks for being such dedicated readers! (LOL)

So there is a video on You Tube of Horizons Adam Drake jumping his Losi 8 a “record” 144 feet. Then this week, Associated shot out a video of The King Richard Saxton jumping his RC8B a “record” 137 feet. So which one really holds the record? Both were truly burly leaps for sure, and I’d love to see them go head to head in a jump off, Seth Enslow style. I-Hobby perhaps? None of them come close to our video of the Worlds Longest RC Car Jump so I’m not sure how anyone claims the record anyway.

Speaking of moto (the Seth comment), congrats to the old man John “Junk Yard” Dowd for this 3rd place overall finish at the AMA motocross national over the weekend at Southwick. The 44 year old Dowd had the biggest smile ever on after beating most of the other riders that were half his age.

On the other side of the moto coin, Justin Weeks, 450A champ from this years Loretta Lynns, had a bad crash over the weekend. Your prayers are needed, and you can find more info at justinweeks381.com

That’s it for this week, support your hobby, make it out to your local tracks and LHS’s.
