Year after year we strive to go bigger than the last, not only on the website, but at events, shows, bashes, or wherever the Big Squid Crew might be. This year the Big Squid RC Crew went above and beyond expectations at iHobby 2014! Our schedule was insane with two huge product unveils, our own print unveil, 2 surface demos a day, and 2 flying cage demos a day. To say our down time was short would be a serious understatement. Weeks before, the show preparations were well on their way, and there wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t think we would be able to pull it all off. Everyone stepped it up a notch and while things seemed impossible even while we were at the show, it all still worked out.

The weekend shows were amazing, the response we got from industry folks, and consumers was overwhelmingly positive on all fronts. The amount of ‘Thank Yous’ I got from hobby shop owners and employees was unexpected and very gratifying. It’s nice to hear that we are doing positive things for the industry, and that the people we are trying to help appreciate the effort.

I can’t thank the manufactures enough for all the support for the giveaways we had at every demo, to the huge announcements of the Pro-Line PRO-MT and Axial Yeti XL. Talk about unprecedented! Two of the biggest product announcements of the year came from our booth!

The amount of Dromida Ominus (Omini?) we gave away at the flying cage was crazy, and several people came up to me after our premiere flying demos to tell me that was the most spectators and the most excitement the cage had seen in years. We couldn’t of pulled that off without the support from Hobbico!

I’d like to personally thank Craig the Crazy Ramp Builder, Wrench, 3DBill, Adam the Intern, Don Juan, Tim Mohr, Cubby, Kevin ‘Tomato Sauce’, Jack H. Doug, and of course the real reasons our booth was packed all weekend, Sarah, Ana, Iza, Mandi and Teresa! We have quite the band of misfits, but everyone of them was vital to pulling off an amazing show. Not everyone is pictured up there, sorry about that, we had a few missing on picture day. You guys all rock!

Thank You!

Almost forgot it’s Friday! Here are two awesome, and on topic mystery pictures.
Pic 1, Pic 2. We have come a long way.

Carisma The Jeric Group iHobby
One of the many new exhibitors at iHobby was The Jeric Group. While Bill Jeric has been a force in the hobby for many years, this was the first time he had a booth to help promote the Carisma, Tuning Haus, and Prime R/C products that he distributes. Of special interest to us was the Carisma M10SC and Subaru rally car that The Jeric Group will soon start importing to the states (picture #1 in the gallery below). If they are like the other vehicles in the Carisma line-up they should make great bashers.

If you are a hobby shop wanting more information on The Jeric Group, hit up their Official Website. For you consumers, please check out the official Carisma Website.

Doesn’t the young man in the picture above look happy? He sure does, he is the first owner in the entire world of the new Pro-Line Pro-MT monster truck. We ended up giving away a second Pro-MT as well, you can see its happy owner in the second gallery below.

We were very fortunate to be able to give a lot of cool gear this year at iHobby. We would like to give a HUGE Thank You to Pro-Line for letting us debut and give away the first two Pro-MTs off the production line. Our full review of the Pro-MT goes up Tuesday October 14th.

We would also like to thank ARRMA for letting us give away a Fury and a Vorteks. Big thanks go out to the folks over at Dromida who hooked us up with numerous Ominus quadcopters, and to Axial for letting us give away one of their Ram trucks. More thanks go out to Heli-Max for the 230Si quads we gave away and to Kyosho America for the Mad Bug. Estes let us give away a bunch of their Proto-X quads, they might be tiny but they sure put a huge smile on peoples faces.

Fire Brand RC
Making their very first appearance at the iHobby Expo is a company called Fire Brand RC. While new to iHobby, they have been selling various rc accessories on eBay for some time. What was the coolest thing in their booth? That would have to be their very trick chassis wraps. These are available for several different models and can really bling out the underside of your chassis.

Fire Brand RC has a bunch of different accessories for everyone from the drift crowd to backyard bashers, check out all their products on their Official Website.

Horizon Hobby iHobby 2014
Our friends at Horizon Hobby are showing off a lot of new products here at iHobby 2014.

Perhaps the biggest news from their booth is that Horizon is now distributing Anki Drive Products to hobby shops. You may have heard of the name Anki Drive before, they make some very innovative phone controlled battle cars that you may have already seen in big box stores.

Also new in the Horizon booth was the Losi XXX-SCB Brushless RTR (Street $349). The latest edition of the SCB comes with a powerful Dynamite brushless system, AVC stability control, and new Eclipse SCT tires.

The Vaterra K5 Blazer was a big hit in the Horizon booth, turning heads with its scale appearance.

The tiny new ECX Beatbox and Kickflip are also on display, expect these to be one of the bigger hits of the 2014 Christmas buying season. In person they look like a load of fun to play with.

Horizon also had numerous air products on display, including their recently picked up Fat Shark line that even our own Cub Reporter is enamored with.

If you want to learn more about all the different products from Horizon simple click This Link to visit their official website.

Thursday and Friday morning are for industry people only, but Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon are for consumers.

When visiting our booth you can pick up free stickers and the premiere issue of Big Squid RC Monthly. On Thursday morning at 11:00 am central time, we will be world premiering a hot new truck release. On Saturday at 11:00 am we will be premiering a second hot new vehicle. Both are HUGE new releases that we will post to the web shortly after we premier them at the show.

The BigSquid Bash Crew will be putting on two truck demos daily, and for the first time we will also be doing demonstrations in the flying cage. During our demos on consumer days we’ll be giving away a ton of cool stuff, including new vehicles, t-shirts, and more.
