Event Coverage – Show Me Scalers Top Truck Challenge

Driving scale trucks is huge right now so Cubby and I decided to hit the Show Me Scalers Top Truck Challenge. The event was put on by the ShowMeScalers.com crew and consisted of three events – rock course, mud bog, and truck pull. The pulling event ended up getting cancelled, but for a good reason, the turnout was so big that they simply ran out of time.

Adam “The Uber Intern” had built a killer STRC equipped Axial Wraith for Cubby to drive and I drove our BSRC review Vaterra Twin Hammers. Both are tough scale machines that worked well for us all day long.

The event was held in Wentzville Missouri, a town on the north-western edge of the St Louis metro area. Competitors were divided into three different classes based on the truck they were driving. The three classes were 1.9, 2.2 and the crazy “unlimited” class.

The 2.2 trucks kicked things off, first competing on the rock course, then going over to the mud bog. The smaller 1.9 trucks got their turn next, and the “Unlimited” class trucks went last. The rock course was quite challenging and the mud bog was just plain fun. I had never competed in a “scale” event before, luckily the Show Me Scalers event was a blast and I look forward to hitting another one soon.

LEGO 1/7th Scale RC Caterham

Spotted this over at TheAwesomer.com. It’s a completely home built and amazingly detailed RC Lego Caterham in 1/7th scale. It has disc brakes, 5 speed + reverse, full suspension and the engineering underneath is mind blowing. Even the controller is built from scratch. The crew over at HobbyTech have just announced their new Xtronic Series of waterproof servo’s. Now you can get a variety of high performance servo’s that aren’t afraid to get wet during a hardcore bashing session or trail drive.

The Xtronic Series includes the XT W03 (3kg torque, plastic gear), XT W06MG (6kg, metal gear, low profile), XT W09MG (9kg, metal gear), and the XT W13MG (13kg, metal gear). Hobby Pro USA PR S1 2wd Buggy

The new Hobby Pro USA buggy was first seen HERE, and teased HERE, but now it has been officially introduced. The Hobby Pro PR S1 2wd 10th scale buggy can be set up in either rear or mid motor configuration, and comes with big bore shocks and a CNC machined aluminum chassis. Street priced is anticipated to be $280 and they should start hitting hobby shop shelves in late May or early June. Looking to add more scale realism to your truck? Why not put a trailer behind it?

RadShapeRC might just have what you are looking for. The RadShapeRC Box Trailer is an actual kit that you have to put together. It comes with laser cut panels that mount to a precision machined aluminuim chassis. Dual mounted axles are used for greater strength and shielded bearings keep things rolling smoothly. The kit doesn’t come with wheels but is perfect for bolting up the 1.9′s of your choice. The part number is #RRCCT03 while the street price is £99 (about $150 US). Teaser – Hobby Pro USA 2wd 10th Scale Buggy

The crew over at Hobby Pro USA have just sent out teaser pictures of their new 2wd 10th scale competition buggy. Hobby Pro has been known more for their 8th scale gear, but now they are branching out to the very popular 10th scale buggy class with a car that is said to be made from the finest materials and designed to race at the highest levels.
