While we don’t do a lot of die-hard racing around here, we do mention big events now and then, especially when they are close to home, and include a cool video to go along with the announcement!

This July 19th-21st 2013, the Futaba/O.S. Nitro Challenge in St. Louis, Missouri will be Hosted by the Dirtburners R/C Club, and it’s always an exciting race with a cool track to go along with it.

If you are into the racing scene, check out the video below which should get you really psyched about the race!

Who knows, you may catch Tim or Cubby down there on the lookout for new products being tested.

Over the weekend we went out to Dollingers Pumpkin Farm in Minooka Illinois for the Tough Truck Challenge scale crawl event! There were a ton of people who showed up and competed and it was a great day of non stop crawling. There were three main courses that all had a different difficulty level to them. Each course started with a very steep decent followed by either mud or a hill climb. There were all sorts of trucks that entered because everyone was welcome and no one was left out. There were over 40 1.9 scale rigs and over 30 2.2s. Which made each course go by rather slow but it was never boring and everyone who entered was given pizza and pop during the second trail! The guys from NWI TTC really had their stuff together for this comp and it went very smooth, there weren’t any mix ups and the judges were very helpful on making sure you knew where to drive. I competed with a couple of my scale rigs and ended up taking second place with my custom Axial wraith.

Are you an outdoors type of person? Do you have fun exploring? Are you up for a good treasure hunt? Axial has announced their first Geocache of the year.

For those that might not know what a geocache is- it’s an outdoor activity where you use a GPS to find hidden items. Typically when you find a geocache you might take an item inside and replace it with something that you’ve brought with you, but in the case of the Axial Geocache you get to keep the item, and after you contact Axial they send you more stuff in the mail! Knowing the guys at Axial, the prizes are bound to be pretty trick.

How do you get started? Get your GPS fired up and hit THIS LINK. The link contains the GPS co-ordinates to where the Axial Geocache is located. The link also contains pictures to help you find the goods.

The crew at Horizon Hobby take their flying very seriously and had a very large booth at the Weak Signals 2013 Show. All of their major product lines were well represented and they a large staff to answer any questions that people had.

Horizon had a lot of new product on display. They were showing off a multitude of new airplanes, as well as a new line of gas engines and a new Blade helicopter. We’ll be posting more information on their new releases in the coming days.

The Hitec crew was in full force at the Weak Signals 2013 Expo. Hitec is known for their excellent quality servo’s and had their entire line on display. From their blue cased waterproof servo’s to their new red cased Castle powered servo’s, they have a servo for every application.

In addition to servo’s, Hitec was showing off their latest transmitters and battery chargers. The new Hitec Aurora 9X transmitter features ultra fast response and 9 channels for use on your airplane. For chargers, the new Hitec X1 Touch was on display. The new X1 has a touch screen, charges all popular chemistries, and can charge at up to 7 amps.

One of the highlights of the 2013 Weak Signals Toledo RC Expo was the huge booth from Hobbico. Inside were all of Hobbico’s product lines like Futaba, O.S. Engines, Aquacraft, Heli-Max, Flyzone and Tactic.

Perhaps the biggest news in the booth was the announcement of the new Heli-Max 1SQ mini-quad with on-board camera. There are several neat features about the camera- you can adjust its angle, and even cooler, you can snap stills and turn the video on/off from your transmitter. Once done flying you simply load the video on to your computer and relive the action. Price? Around $25 more than the standard 1SQ. We can’t wait to get our hands on one (or two, or five!) of these.

Hobbico was also showing off a number of their latest planes and boats. The Mini-Switch, the ERaze, the P-38 Lightning, and the Rifle 1M were some of the new planes pulling in the crowds. For boats the latest from Aquacraft were on display, including the new Rescue 17 Fireboat that has been creating so much buzz.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that a few of the Big Squid RC crew will be in attendance this weekend at the Weak Signals RC Show on April 6th 2013! The show is all weekend, but we have some in to town to check it out. We have heard nothing but good things about the show, and are really looking forward to hanging out and meeting a lot of new people. This show is mostly RC Planes and Heli’s from what we have heard, but it’s a ‘Selling Show’ which means every booth can sell stuff! Awe yea, time to buy some new RC!

If you are in the area, you should really think about going to the show, at the very least you can meet up with us right? :)

I brought plenty of stickers to hand out, and even a few t-shirts. So if you see us walking the show, make sure to say hi!! We know we have a bunch of readers/fans in Ohio, so come check out the show! Hope to see ya there!

The yearly Motorama show in Harrisburg, PA. seems to keep growing and growing. This year was no exception, as the location seemed to be packed to capacity! There was a lot of great RC action from racing to flying, and there was also plenty of non-rc related stuff to keep everyone happy! From the car shows, and atv racing, to models, and rc sales. There is a little something for everyone at this show.

The crew over at Hobbico have just released a promo video for eFest 2013. eFest is one of the largest indoor fly-ins in the world, and this year it is being held on February 9th and 10th in the epicenter of the rc universe, Champaign Illinois. Check out the video, and if you’ve never been to a huge indoor flying event feel free to make the trip and see it in person. HERE is the link to the official eFest website for more details.
