hpi drift challenge

Attention drift fans!! HPI Racing  has released some details on their upcoming 2012 HPI Drift Challenge – Round 1! The first round will take place at HPI Racing HQ in Foothill Ranch, CA. on April 1st, 2012! It’s free to enter, and there are some good prizes on the block including invitations do the next drift battle in Long Beach, and some winners will even get all expense paid trip/ticket to the Vaughn Gittin Jr. RC Drift Invitational on October 13th.

Here is the official HPI Racing Drift Challenge Link, if you are looking to get a little sideways.

Our amazing photographer Joe C. was out at this weekends Motorama Event in Harrisburg, PA. and sent along some photos from the show. Looks like they had a good turn out of people. Too bad the RC racing does not fill the stands like the ATV races do.

Hobbico was there in full force with a lot of the stuff they carry. There was even a Flyzone section.

So the Big Squid RC Crew invaded E-Fest 2012 this weekend. There were a few new products there like the 18 channel radios. These things are insane! The place was packed with spectators who braved the bitter cold to come watch some awesome indoor flying. At any given time there was at least 6-8 planes in the air, a few heli’s and a few misc who know’s what’s flying around. There was a caged off 3D flying section along with a heli section, but most of the armory was dedicated to just normal flying. I really like the USS Hobbico aircraft carrier that had mini plans landing and taking off from it while it was rolling around the on the floor. I also enjoyed watching the Snoopy Dog house defy physics and cruise around.

It was also cool running into a few fans out there! Seemed like everywhere we turned someone was saying ‘Yo Big Squid!’ There are a TON of pics from the show, so make sure to keep reading to see them all!

e-fest
A bunch of the Big Squid RC Crew will be at E-Fest 2012 this Saturday February 11, 2012. So if you see us, make sure to say hello! We will just be hanging out, crashing planes, our usual stuff. We do not have a booth, so just look for the crew walking around. The address if you are in the area and thinking about attending.. University of Illinois Track and Field Armory, 505 East Armory, Champaign, Illinois 61820. Hit the E-Fest 2012 link for all the details.

ihobby

The official announcement was just made that iHobby Expo will be moving to Cleveland Ohio in 2012! What does this mean? It means if you are still on the fence about going to the iHobby Expo in Rosemont, IL October 22nd & 23rd at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, you should really go, because it’s going to be a long drive next year!!

For those that are unfamiliar with the expo, you can check out our iHobby 2010 coverage and see for yourself how awesome of a show it is! Once again we are planning some sweet stuff, so if you are in the area, (or not) make sure to attend!

So if you happen to catch RC news posted over the weekend, it probably had something to do with the word Bash-A-Palooza. The bash event itself was a blast! We had people drive in from all over the place to take part in the event, including two from Oklahoma! (about 700 miles from the event!) So that was really cool. As with all of our bash events, it was great to meet a ton of new people, talk to fans/readers of the site, and just hang out with them. It’s also fun to be able to give them prizes as a way to show our appreciation of them. Speaking of, special thanks go out to our prize sponsors for this weekend, Thunder Tiger, Futaba, Trak Power, Pro-Line, and HPI Racing!

The bash consisted of four events with two classes, short course and monster truck.
We started off with the obstacle course. Drivers had to navigate their vehicles over jumps and around barriers for two laps before ending in a pit of 27mhz and 75mhz stock controllers. The first driver to touch a controller was the winner. Talk about carnage! Vehicles were launching about 15 feet to land in a mess of antenna’s and transmitters, and it was awesome to watch them go flying! The crowds really enjoyed seeing them fly into the air with battery holders flying in ever direction.

Bash Banner

I just wanted to take a moment and thank all the people who joined us today for our Back To Roots Bash! Food was eaten, tons of vehicles were broken, swag was given away, and the best part.. lots of new people were met! A good percentage of the people there were totally new to many of us ‘regulars’ and it was really cool to meet them all! Our farthest travelers of the day came all the way from Indianapolis Indiana! Thanks for making the trip guys!!

Wrench has posted a bunch of action shots over on our Facebook Bash Picture page, so make sure to check those out.. and if your not a friend yet, make sure to hit that LIKE button while your over there!

Special thanks to Wrench, Adam the Intern and 3DBill for helping out throughout the day with cooking, wrenching, and filming stuff. Also thanks to 3DBill for letting me show off my (lack of any) skills with one of his 3D planes! LOL.

Again, thanks to everyone who came out to hang out, and we will see you all again real soon! Here are a few pics of some of the people who got to pick from the ‘Swag Box’. Hmm.. one of those guys looks familiar.. Wrench!!!!

RC Bash
Attention Bashers! Here are the details for our
Back To Our Roots Bash!‘ The idea behind this bash is to do it like we used to do, hang out, grill some food, break some vehicles and just chill out with our fellow bashers. There will be a few events, just to keep things entertaining, but for the most part it will probably be fairly anything goes style.

There are no guarantee’s that the field will be trimmed that weekend, but we will try and corner off a good section of the parking lot as well for people who don’t have vehicles that can handle the taller grass.

We highly recommend that if you plan on attending, try and get your vehicles on 2.4ghz systems. There can be a lot of people at these bashes, and it’s difficult to keep everyone on the honor system when it comes to FM/AM radios. We will have a frequency tree present, but rather then press your luck, or wait for someone to finish, go get yourself a nice cheap Tactic 2.4ghz.

We will be bringing some food and drink, but we encourage others to bring some as well! In previous years, people have volunteered to bring specific things, plates/cups/napkins, or ketchup and mustard, or hot dogs, buns.. etc. So we are going to turn the COMMENTS section on for this post. If you are planning on attending, please comment so we can get a decent idea of how many hot dots/hamburgers we need etc.. if you can or want to bring something to share, please post what you will bring, so we don’t end up with 30 bashers and 900 hot dogs.

We will have a few ramps of course, and you are welcome to bring your own as well. We will plan for a few events like the parking lot wars, demolition derby, jump and aim, etc.

It’s tough to score picnic tables, so if you can, bring some folding chairs, or tables to make it easier for you to pit.

The date for the event is June 18th, 2011, and people can start showing up around 10am.

The location is what some people call the Berwyn Bash spot. It’s in a forest preserve area, off Harlem avenue, and 40th street. You can see the Google Map Link here. Check the green arrow on the flyer for exact location.

Any questions, feel free to post in the comments as well, so we can answer them and everyone can see what’s up. The event will be rain or shine, hopefully more shine than rain. Unless it’s a total downpour, we will be out there.

Hope to see you out there!

PS: Also, don’t forget to LIKE or TWEET this so your friends know you are attending, so they can join us out there!

There are a few big events coming up here and I wanted to take a moment to tell everyone about them all so you can mark your calendars!

June 18th, 2011Big Squid RC – Back To Our Roots Bash! There will be an official flyer in the next day or so. The location is in the forest preserve, off Harlem Ave and 40th street in Lyons IL. Click and look at THIS GREEN ARROW for the location. This will be a good old fashioned bash.
There is a big field where we run in, and also a parking lot. Feel free to bring ramps if you like, there will be more than a few. We will also be cooking out, and have a sign up for people if they want to bring drinks, hot dogs.. etc.
We are going old school with a day of bashing! Watch for the flyer and how to sign up soon.
