HPI Trophy Buggy HPI Trophy Buggy

Now this is something I think is cool! HPI Racing is releasing their 1/8th scale buggy in nitro and electric form, and finally bringing them to the US!

The Trophy 3.5 (nitro) and Trophy FLUX will come ready to run. They both come with a 2.4GHz radio and aluminum chassis and shock towers.

The FLUX version is 4S capable with the Flux Rage speed controller and Flux Scream motor.

The nitro Trophy 3.5 comes with a waterproof electronics compartment, HPI SF-10W waterproof servos and a Nitro Star F3.5 (.21) engine.

We are seriously looking forward to getting our hands on both of these buggys and hope they can take the beatings we have planned for them.

Looks like RCCA got an exclusive first look at the new XTM Racing 1/8 scale Rail.  From the pictures they’re sharing on the interwebs the Rail looks a lot like a scaled down 5B (NTTAWWT).  It’s going to be available as a brushless electric and nitro version, is 4WD with three differentials, and comes RTR with a 2.4 GHz radio from Airtronics.

Hopefully we’ll get some more info from XTM about this new take on the 1/8 scale buggy, but until then check out the press release at the Radio Control Zone forums.

Novak Kinetc-Ballistic Novak has just released their new Kinetic Racing Brushed/Brushless ESC and it’s available as a system with one of their 10 Ballistic Brushless motors (from 3.T to 21.5T).

This new ESC offers a ton of options, easily programmed using Novak’s NovaLink PC Interface, including Dynamic Motor Timing and digital current control. The Ballistic Brushless motors boast an easy to adjust timing assembly along with interchangeable wound stator construction.

Visit Novak‘s site for all the details.

HPI Racing Brama 18b

HPI Racing first made its name in the mini market with the Micro-RS4. It’s been some time since the shrink ray has been out, but HPI is at it again with the Brama 18B Buggy. Just like big Brother, the Brama 10B, the 18B is loaded with features. A shaft drive 4wd system provides power to front and rear differentials for even power distribution. The whole drive train rides on smooth ball bearings. This little buggy gets the full RTR package. The prebuilt buggy includes everything you need to get going, just add AA batteries for the transmitter. The body and rear wing come pre-finished, painted and decaled. Knowing HPI, this little car will hold up against everything you throw at it. The center shaft is sealed, making maintenance a bit easier. It should start hitting the shelves mid September.

Check out the official HPI Racing web page for more info!

Hot Bodies Ve8 buggy

Hot Bodies Ve8 buggy Holy Moly, look at this buggy! The new Hot Bodies Ve8 looks sweet! Some of the big highlights, Molded composite chassis, big bore shocks, fit Novak, NEU, and Castle Motors, Optional Mechanical brake!!
Talk about trying to revolutionize the 1:8 buggy market, these guys are pulling out all the stops! I really look forward to seeing if that chassis can take a basher beating! One probably with current buggy design for bashers, after a day of big air, your chassis looks like a pretzel. Optional Mechanical Brake?!!? How sweet will that be? Spiral cut diffs, your gonna need them with the brushless power this thing is going to handle!

I’d like to see a little more realistic / scale body with that being the current trend lately, but I’m sure someone will come out with something for it. I look forward to giving this vehicle a good bashing! Can’t wait for the release!
HPI and Hot Bodies have really been making waves in the RC industry lately! I’m glad to see it.. the people on top have been taking it too easy up there, they keep resting on their names, and HPI/HB is going to be king of the hill before too long.

Tamiya Vintage Tamiya and Vintage RC fans rejoice! The Buggy Champ is being re-released to celebrate it’s 30th year anniversary. The re-release is faithful to the original, with metal parts and the trick trailing wishbone front suspension. A few tweaks have been made to make it perform better, but overall it will be arriving just as it first did in 1979. The new Buggy will feature full ball bearings, improved front hubs, reinforced front uprights, and much improved oil shocks. Staying true to Tamiya tradition, the kit will come in the original blister pack boxing. If you have never built a kit before, this is the time to try it!

Good evening, good morning, hello, hello- welcome to yet another edition of the loathed Cub-Report.

So you like to go fast eh? Well, everybody does, that’s why we are in this sport. Word went public this week about this years big high speed run event. Nic Case, current pwn’er of all things high speed, worked with Castle Creations and RC Driver magazine to get an event put together out east this October. I know there are a ton of BigSquidRC readers that do rc drag racing, so what about giving some high speed running a shot? Gear up, go huge, and just see what kind of top speed number you can bust out!

Of interest is the change of support from RCCA to RC Driver this year for the high speed event. Knowing how the guys at Driver handle things, I think we can expect for this years high speed event to totally blow away the RCCA backed events in every way. Expect much larger attendance, better competition, and a much better organized show this year.

Midwesterner Taylor James pwn’ed the boyz at the 8th scale buggy “World’s Warm Up” race out at The Farm 2. The 8th scale buggy IFMAR world championship is the most prestigious racing event in all of r/c racing. Insiders and outsiders are speculating just who is going to take home the world championship this year. Some have their money on the warm up winner and Jammin factory shoe James, others are placing their bets on ThunderTiger/AE hotshoe Ryan Maifield. Personally, my money is on either Kortz or Pavidis. Both of those gentlemen always rise to the occasion for IFMAR worlds, while most of the other top American’s flounder. This year will most likely be different, as the race is being held on a typical American track, where the boyz from Team USA will feel very much at home, while all the Euro’s will bewondering where all the gravel and brick sections are at!

Also of note for the IFMAR’s, Billy “Most Versatile Racer On the Planet” Fischer is ready and stoked to go huge. Billy is easily the nicest guy in the pits, and he has climbed to the top of the 8th scale pile in quite a hurry. If the Fishman is “on” at the IFMAR race, goodness help the rest of the world.

Jeremy Kortz, as I mentioned earlier, is one of my favs for the 08′ world title. What I’ve always wondered about him is this- he looks like the perfect pitch man for outside the industry sponsors, so why hasn’t Red Bull/Monster/Rockstar/Etnies/DC/Spy/Kicker picked him up yet?? Jeremy is all tatt’ed up, sporting a killer left coast look and easy going attitude. Plus, he’s perhaps the most naturally talented racer to come from the USA. Potential sponsors, if you are out there, I’m telling you Kortz can help you sell a s#!tload of product and get your name in the door of the r/c world on the best possible foot.

Anybody else notice LIVE CORR racing on NBC today? That sport has come a long ways, and todays live coverage is more proof of that. Unfortunately for my boy, and 7 time AMA Supercross champion, Jeremy “The King” McGrath, a flat tire ruined his day. Nice to see another ex-motocrosser Rick “Too Hip” Johnson carry the torch at the front of the pack.

The good guys are Schumacher released info on their new touring car, the Mission 3.5 last week. Now, the old Mission 3 was one of the best “elite” TC’s out there, so what could they possibly improve? The retail price, that’s what! Rumored retail of the new scoot is supposed to be right around $299, which looks mighty inviting considering all the other overly priced elite tourers from X-Ray, AE, ect. Props to Robin and SP at Schu for keeping their prices reasonable during these rough economic times.

What was the biggest “release” of the week? No, it didn’t come from BigSquidRC’s editor-in-chief Brian after watching some free internet pr0n. It came instead from Horizon/Losi in the form of new information regarding their all new 10th scale Slider! Now, I didn’t get the memo saying “dirt oval is the hot new thing”, so I doubt dirt oval is just gonna bust off the chains because of this new car. But, with the hot trend being “realistic” looking r/c cars, Horizon/Losi will move a lot of these off dealer shelves.

Btw- Horizon/Losi also announced a new body for nitro 8th scale oval! In some parts of our country, that is actually a pretty hot class. Just take an 8th scale buggy, put some funky body on it, run some crazy camber angles, and go out and throw some insane roost. With Losi’s release of this body, you can only expect for them to produce a Losi 8 inspired oval car at some point in the near future.

Almost forgot, rumor is that Horizon/Losi’s 10th scale crawler isn’t that far off, so all you guys that got your panties in a bunch over them releasing an 18th scaler, should be able to un-bunch soon.

That’s it for this week r/c fans. As always, get off your butt and get down to spend some cash at your LHS, drop by your local track to either watch, help marshal, or get some laps in, and read BigSquidRC on a daily basis!

RC Pro-Line Tires Just a quick bit of information on some Pro-Line Racing Hole Shot tires. They now come in a few different compounds like soft XTR, M2, and M3! If you are a serious racer, you know you need these!

RC Pro-Line Body It wouldn’t seem like a new month without a new Crowd Pleazer 2.0 body announcement from Pro-Line Racing. This latest edition fits the X-Ray XB808. They also have a new one that fits the Hyper 9! If you have a buggy that needs a body, make sure to pick one up.

RC Electric Buggy Kyosho I know our resident edgy reporter Cubby has been pushing the electric RC scene for a while now, and it looks like Pro-Line Racing is starting to help with his efforts to help bring electric back to the front. This new body is designed to keep those high voltage brushed or brushless RC Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 systems cool! The body is called the Vortex, and is actually a really cool design. It’s got all sorts of places to bring the air inside and seems well thought out! If you have a Kyosho Lazer, you are going to want this body!
