The Kyosho DBX VE 2.0 Review

Snapshot 2 (5-11-2012 11-03 AM)

In my last review I mentioned that I didn’t mind handing over my R/C cars to just about anyone.  This time, it wasn’t because I was worried about the car.  I just plain forgot to offer because I was having too much fun with it? So what is a 1:10th scale buggy with 1:8th scale wheels like? Read on…

THE HPI Apache C1 Review

When HPI mad the announcement and initial showed the first pictures of the HPI Apache C1, the world took notice. It was going to be the size people were looking for, the power people wanted, and the scale looks that seem to be the direction RC is going to. People were excited, pre-orders were being made, we got our hands on one (actually two) so lets see how it holds up. Keep on reading..

THE 1/10th 4wd Axial EXO Terra Buggy Review

axial exo

Wind back the hands of time to when Associated first released their legendary RC10 buggy. The RC10 flew off LHS shelves not only because it had ground breaking technology, but also because of its incredible scale looks. Since then rc buggies have gradually become less and less scale realistic, today rc buggies look more like UFO’s than their full scale counterparts. But… because short course trucks have taken off manufactures are now making an effort to put the scale looks back into buggies. Kyosho, Losi, HPI and now Axial have all released what we like to call around the office “scale buggies”, buggies that actually look like their full scale brothers. If you ask around the industry you’ll hear many insiders say “scale buggys” are great for the hobby and they are our future.

We’ve been building, driving, hucking, flipping, bashing and thrashing Axial’s new EXO Terra scale buggy for the last several weeks. Is it worth your cash? Will it single handedly turn the rc world from UFO’s to real scale looks? Read on…

The Axial AX10 Ridgecrest Review

The all new Ax10 Ridgecrest is Axial’s latest truck to enter the crawler/scale scene. When you first look at the truck it seems to be an Ax10 with a new body, but look closer and you’ll find it has an all new chassis with scaled down Dana 60 axles (also used on the Wraith). The truck looks great! I agree with Brian in the fact that the tires look huge. Lets see how it handles..

The Duratrax VW Baja Bug Review

duratrax vw baja

At a visit to Hobbico headquarters several months ago, I got a sneak peak of what some of their upcoming lineup was going to be. I got to see the ARRMA brand, the new Evader Brushless, and finally the VW Baja Bug. Everything I saw had a unique quality that made it special, and for the Baja it was the of course the body and style. Duratrax was breaking away from their mold and trying something a little different. Along with the VW license came their new ‘Get Dirty’ attitude. Did they deliver? Does the VW break the mold enough to get more people to turn some heads? Keep reading to find out..

The Traxxas 1/16 Grave Digger Review

Traxxas Grave Digger

The moment we saw the Traxxas 1/16 Grave Digger, our gut reaction was that this might be pretty cool. A mini monster truck based on the 1/16 scale E-Revo platform would be fun to bash with. Then we read further and saw that it was shipping as a 2wd vehicle, and you could ‘upgrade’ to 4wd. This news was a bit upsetting. Well, we finally got some wheel time with the truck, our final thoughts? Keep reading to see how much we miss 4wd…

BS-IMAG0191

Sometimes people think I’m crazy but I just don’t mind handing over many of my R/C cars to just about anyone.  The beauty of this car alone made most people shy away.  It wasn’t until I told them it was a review car for Big Squid that they’d take the wheel.  Assuring them not to worry if it broke (as that is exactly what we wanted to know) they took the helm at 4 different venues with only a loose rear wing to show for it. So what’s it like to drive one of these things? Read on…

The Traxxas XO-1 Review

We finally got our hands on the Traxxas XO-1, easily one of the most talked about car releases of the year. This was Traxxas’s answer for a Supercar. There was controversy from the beginning, and there was also a lot of praise. This is probably the most anticipated and honest reviews of the Traxxas XO-1 you will find, so lets dive into the review and see how it rates with Big Squid RC.

The Duratrax Evader Brushless Review

evader brushless

We first set our eyes on this truck at a private viewing in the Hobbico offices back in October. It was put on the table in front of us with a ‘what do you think?’ and at first glance there was a lot of truck that we were looking forward to. From brushless to waterproof, it had what we were looking for in a new Evader, lets see if it stood up to our expectations….

A couple of Redcat Racing‘s vehicles have appeared in the review section here on Big Squid over the last few months.  And they’ve gotten positive numbers and comments from those that have tested them.  It was because of those reviews that I decided to purchase a Redcat Monsoon XTE, which is a 1/8 scale brushless truggy.  I first saw this truck at the IHobby 2011 expo and was somewhat impressed by what I had seen.  So that got me thinking that perhaps Redcat’s products have changed for the better.  Maybe they’ve learned something from their rather durable and well built large scale cars and applied that to their new line of smaller stuff.  Possibly, Redcat has made a good kit.  I’ve been trying to review this truck for quite a while now, after many false starts and nagging issues.  There comes a time when one has to stop and say “I’ve been fooled.”

The Speed Passion RS1 Review

Speed Passion RS1

When we caught our first glimpse of the Speed Passion RS1 at the RCX Chicago show, we have to admit the $99 sale price is what caught our attention first. From there it was the RTR with a Brushless system and 2.4GHz radio, all for $99!? It was tough to believe, so we picked one up to see for ourselves! Keep reading to find out our thoughts…
