Traxxas Monster Mutt

When Traxxas announced the Monster Jam Replicas, there were quite a few reactions around the office. I remember telling Cubby that I was going to be driving a monster truck with ears! Cubby just rolled his eyes, and gave me the usual face palm and disapproving head shake. Fine! See if you get to play with the new puppy when it arrives! A few weeks later, we had the Monster Mutt in the office and it was time for testing! Did it win over Cubby’s approval, or has he banished it to the dog house? Keep reading to find out.

Venom Gambler

Ever since the Traxxas Slash was introduced to the world, short course trucks have been all the rage. The rc world was used to driving alien looking “stadium trucks” and “buggies”, but instantly fell head over heals for the realism and just plain cool factor that the scale looking Slash had to offer. With the Slash being such an overwhelming hit it was obvious that there were going to be plenty more short course trucks on the way from other manufactures.

At Nuremburg 2010 Venom announced they were tossing their hat into the 2wd short course ring with a truck dubbed the “SCX”. Venom certainly isn’t know for being a car manufacture, they are known more for their batteries, heli’s and such, but it is always good to see more choices in a hot product category. Well, after over a year of development, the Venom truck is now hitting hobby shelves renamed the “Gambler“.

Venom is selling both a brushed and brushless version of the Gambler, this week I am reviewing the brushed RTR version. So just how does it stack up to the competition????

Electrix Ruckus

When we first heard about the Electrix brand, it was one of those situations where you knew there was only two possible outcomes. There have been a good handful of companies that have tried to put out a very economical and durable RC, and most seem to fail. Did Electrix pull off a win, or were they going to follow in the footsteps of many.. keep reading to find out.. READ MORE

losi ten scte

What’s the fastest growing class here in the good ole’ U S of A? The 4wd short course class is of course! Sporting the realism of their full sized counterparts, and 4wd systems that make them easier to drive (and more fun to bash!), it’s no wonder this genre is blowing up. Losi has now jumped into the 4wd SC battle going up against Ofna, Jammin and Traxxas with their new Ten SCTE ARR. Just how does it stack up?

If you are into 1/18th scale vehicles, or thinking about getting into them, add the DuraTrax Vendetta ST to your ‘MUST OWN’ list!  Just keep reading, and you will find out why.

To start off, lets cover the basics shall we?  If you are a newbie looking to get into RC, or a RC veteran who can appreciate a good manual, Duratax is usually a leader in this area.  The Vendetta ST manual is yet another fine example of how these things should be written.  It’s easy to read, informative, and well laid out.

So I finally got my hands on the DuraTrax Vendetta.  Out of the box, it’s a pretty cool little buggy.  DuraTrax always has a good presentation, and the Vendetta carries on their tradition.  Something else DuraTrax does good are their manuals.  Again the Vendetta manual was no exception.  It’s very well laid out, there is lots of easy to understand information, and the parts/pictures are all easy to find and follow.  If you are a newbie in the world of R/C, DuraTrax is usually a safe place to get started.

A few years ago, I remember talking with some CEN employees, who were telling me that CEN was finally going to get serious about RC. They had been in the RC business for a while, and they had some decent RC vehicles, but nothing really amazing. When the Genesis came out, they turned a lot of heads. They put themselves in the spotlight, and said ‘Hey look at us! We are different!’ They sure were! The Genesis was a monster of a monster truck, and it was different! Now CEN has brought us The Matrix! An attempt at a serious 1/8th scale buggy that looks to make some big waves in the RC race scene.

As a basher, I don’t really do a lot of on-road racing, but I do like to tear up a parking lot whenever I get the chance.  It was time to see if the Duratrax Street Force GP2 could handle some parking lot bashing!

The kit comes RTR with everything you need to get up and running quickly.  All you need to do is install some batteries and add some fuel.  For fuel I went with my standard O’Donnell 20%.  When I went to install the batteries, I was surprised to find that I had to loosen a few screws to be able to remove and install the battery pack.  At first I was a little concerned about this, since if you are running a 4AA pack, you know you want to change them often, and quickly.  After the first run, I decided to pull a Duratrax hump pack from one of my other vehicles, and install it in here.  It fit like a glove, and I was much happier!  If you are going to pick one of these up, spend the extra $20 or so and get yourself a 5 cell pack!
