All new episodes of the MythBusters will soon be upon us! The first of which is this Wednesday night at 9:00pm eastern on the Discovery Channel. We here at the Squid are big fans of the fedora sporting ADHD guy and the mustachioed, beret wearing, mountain of a man (or maybe it’s just Kari… yeah, that’s probably it). Anybody who’s watched the MythBusters knows that they have converted more than a few full size vehicles to radio control in cases when having a human driver would be too dangerous. We can only guess what kind of cool new radio controlled projects they might have up their sleeves for this season. So let’s reminisce about some of their projects from seasons passed, shall we?
Why do I have a feeling this week’s email will be more colorful than normal?
Thanks Cubby, I owe you.
This is a pretty cool new design by JConcepts for the Traxxas Slash. It will also fit the Slash 4×4 or SC10. Some of the interesting numbered features:
1) Scale inspired body, cab and window design.
2) Aggressive headlight and grill treatment
3) Front and Rear fender flares
4) Extended cab with recessed windows.
It’s an interesting look for sure. I dig the flat style paint in their pic, similar to the way it’s done on the HPI Blitz!
Visit JConcepts.net for more info and be sure to check out your local shop to get your hands on one!
If your like me and set your prized controller in your tool box when going to the track then you need to check this out! Robitronic is looking out for you with their new Transmitter bag. Built with a rugged nylon ffabric exterior and very well padded inside your controller will be safe! Reinforced shoulder strap and an easy access velcro pocket and standard.
Hop on over to Robitronic then drop by your local shop and ask for it.
HPI has come out with a super charged brushless motor for their Savage Flux truck. Get more RPM and more top speed with the Flux Tork 2650. The Flux Tork 2650 features massive machined cooling fins to help keep it cool when you’re driving all-out. With a 5mm motor shaft it can fit the upcoming optional pinion gears so you can get even more top speed for those insane runs, or gear it down a bit for increased acceleration on the track.
Just a little heads up, it looks like Acer Racing now has the Motonica P81 Ceramic ball bearing kit in stock and ready to ship! This is the same kit used by Team Motonica and European Champion Shasa Lackner. Head over to Acer Racing for more info and bearing kits.

Having been dormant for some time, the Xmods line is slowly making a comeback. Their newest release, an Audi R8, is probably one of the coolest Xmods to date. The highly detailed body has the usual interchangeable panels that Xmods are known for, but it also has a mock engine bay, just like the real Audi. This adds a great element of realism. The 50 dollar package gets you the car, body, a transmitter that can be used by right or left handed drivers, and a handful of tools and spare hardware that will keep your car running for a while. You can pick up one of these at your local Radioshack. Other recent releases include a Nissan GTR, Corvette C6, and a Vintage 1965 Mustang.
We just got a official press release from our friends at Traxxas’ about the upcoming release of the 1/16 Scale E-Revo VXL and Slash 4WD VXL withBrushless systems! They say that with the VXL, these little vehicles will be able to hit 50+ MPH! Wowza. They will run about 30mph with the included NiMH battery right out of the box, and with a second battery in series hit that 50mph mark!
All I can say is SIGN ME UP! Brushless, + Waterproof + Traxxas = BASHER HEAVEN! The vehicles are due to release in May!
Mr. Jaures Garofali, founder of Super Tigre engines, passed away on Thursday, March 26th at the age of 89. Born in Bologna, Italy in 1920, Mr. Garofali was one of the true pioneers in model engine design. He began designing model engines at the age of seventeen, originally producing engines under the OSAM brand name. He later founded Super Tigre engines in 1949. The first Super Tigre engine produced was the G-19, a 4.82 cc diesel engine soon to be followed by a powerful glow version. In 1950, he produced the famous G-20, a 2.47 cc glow engine that was destined to become one of the most famous engines in the Super Tigre line. The G-20 was flown by modelers in virtually every country and received more than its share of first place awards for the next fifteen years. In 1954, Amato Prati used a stock SuperTigre G-20 in his “Speed King” model and reached a speed of 190.47 km/h, a new Class A world speed record. Mr. Garofali continued to upgrade and improve the performance of this engine, incorporating ideas he received from modelers, especially the speed fliers.
. In May of 1956, A. Marconi, a well known speed flier, used the SuperTigre G-20 Lappato (lapped piston, strengthened crankcase with removable rear cover and many internal changes) to achieve another Class A world speed record of 215.56 km/h with his “Tajavento” model. The G-series SuperTigre engines were aimed at the sport modeler and builder who wanted an engine that was easy to operate, reliable and had enough power for leisure time flying. The G-30 2.5cc diesel engine was the only one of the series designed for competition and was the engine of choice of many FAI Team Racers in the late 1950’s. Mr. Garofali is survived by his wife and children. Daughter Sandra and sons Leonardo, Romualdo and Fabio continue to work in the hobby industry at the Italian distributor, Safalero.
Our sympathy to his friends and family.

Recently, Cubby mentioned something about trying to spread the word about RC to the masses, and that we should stick RC stickers on our full scale vehicles, well, not a few hours after that post I got an email with this picture! Awesome!
I’ll get it added to the Fan Pictures section soon! Thanks!

A very good friend of mine, Mark Loftus, passed away this morning. I had worked with Mark for over 9 years now, and can honestly say I haven’t met a kinder person. He was an awesome co-worker, a true friend, great office mate, and a real family guy. My condolences and heart go out to his family and friends.
This is pretty much a standard Mark picture. Most of the ones I had here all had this same pose. LOL.
It is a huge loss for anyone that ever met him or knew him. I’ll miss you man! Brian
