Can I ask a question or a favor of the MWDRS, or maybe just leave it as an open suggestion?

The current schedule for the Midwest series shows most of the events as 2-day races. Is this really necessary? Can't a 40-car show be run in one day? I mean, we ran 5 rounds of 75 cars at the Trans Am Nationals on a Saturday, and those are 6-minute races each! I don't see why these events NEED to be 2-day races—they aren't 200-car races—and can't possibly need two days to do everything.

In today's economy, it's asking a LOT to ask racers in a traveling series to spend both weekend days plus a hotel for at least one night, after making the haul from wherever—not to mention the entry fees. It's too costly to drive up for an event, and then have to shell out for a couple of nights at a $100 a night hotel, for a dozen 2-second passes over 2 days. For a 2-day weekend for an out-of-towner, you're looking at a $300-500 event!

Besides the costs involved, it's also VERY difficult to get a hall pass for an entire weekend, when summer weekends are so valuable. I don't have a full summer of 2-day weekends free, and driving to an event for the second day, just to potentially get eliminated in the first round is hard to get worked up for.

Honestly, I can't be the only racer that these things are major factors for.

Is there ANY way to cut the fat on this schedule and just make these events ONE day races? Saturday or Sunday is fine, just pick ONE.

:?: :?

I agree one day is enough to get the show in. Start at 08:00 and racing at 12:00 or 01:00. I can't make both days and if you have to qualify on Saturday and race Sunday that doesn't help if you can only make it one day. I am going to show up Sunday, but I won't be qualified or have any passes on the car, WTF.

When you own your own track, and you start with a bare parking lot and a full trailer, I'd love to see it race ready by 8:00. What time do you expect track owners to get up??

Also, never assume you can spray the track the night before, because of location or weather--been there done that.

I would have a hard time going to Lynwood or even Racine for one day and turn around and go home. I would not even do that for big car NHRA drag racing. Better bang for your buck going 2 days. Most people that travel would get into town the night before anyway so they can be ready to go in the morning, so the extra cost of a hotel would be there anyway.

Also, In defense of Roy and I, (As well as other track owners that run cars) we are racers also. With qualifying and racing in one day, we are looking at 6-7 runs per car if we get a couple round wins (2-3 cars each). It would be impossible to run the event, and also have time to work on out own cars and race them.

I don't want to take sides but can identify w/ both sides of the fence. I personally want to make this next event but cannot make the qualifing sessoin on Sat. because of a family commintment. I want to go on Sunday along w/ a few other racers who are not going to be able to make it on Sat as well. What can be done??? Will we be able to get in a couple of qualifiers in during the morning practice or will we be added to the back of the ladder?? Eather option works for me.......so long as we can race.

Stangrey beat me tothe punch , but it is my impression that most of the guys are heading to wisconcin on sunday ! and as stangrey posted , you can be put at the bottom of ladder. if you make qualifying pass on sunday.

I am going to be there Sunday, I guess I will be at the bottom of the bracket then. I am not even going to comment on the one day race schedule, it's not worth arguing over.

The 2 day event just seems to help everyone out more, Track owners get more time in setup and running as well. Then racers coming from far away have time to get to a hotel Take a break from a long drive. Then Q one day, race the next. Then guys driving 1 to 3 hour can still Q sunday and race the same day. It just seems wrong to do a one day event for guys driving 8+ hours there and back,Also racing the hole day. And track owners having to setting up at 5am to be ready for a 8am event. Me I am fine with the bottom of the ladder. don't mean I will stay there LOL

I'll probably be there on Sunday as well. Just don't want to blow the entire weekend for an RC car race. Plus, to get to most of the out-of-towns, I'd have to leave on Friday night, too. That's too much for toy cars, and it's not like it's the Vegas IIC or the Snowbirds or something. This is pretty much club racing. I've driven to Columbus, St. Louis, Louisville and Indianapolis for a one-day race, and there are a lot more options than a 2-day. And you CAN do it all in 24-hours.

The expenses is a big thing, too. The trip to Minnesota was something I have wanted to do for a while, and my weekend was derailed by other things outside of my control, but 2 nights in a hotel ($100 a night was the cheapest I could find), plus 775 miles round tip in the Jeep, food and race entry for the weekend, and then coming home late on Sunday night to have to wake up early for work the next day... too many burrs in the saddle. That's fine for a big event—I have no problem with a once or twice a year thing, but for a regular club schedule, that's TOUGH.

I can see both sides of the picture, and I understand how it works. However, in the rest of the R/C world, 2-day races are a rarity, and usually set aside for the "big ones." And we're talking about events with 300+ entries!

I'm just saying, there are a lot of factors today that are pulling from our leisure funds, and many other variables to deal with. When it comes right down to it, it's a hard sell to steal an entire weekend from the family/wife/significant other more than once or twice a year.

I'm wondering if the car counts or turnouts would be higher with a 1-day event than they would be as a 2-day? Maybe save the 2-day race for a year-end Championship race? Add some importance to it and give something to look for at the end of the season...

Just thinking out loud.

I know I will only be able to make it on Sunday this coming weekend in Racine, and it looks like many others will as well. So you'll have a fair chunk of the field not having any qualifying attempts, and potentially making one or two passes before going home. Bang for the buck, that isn't either. There has to be a happy medium. :?

Sorry to stir up trouble. There just seems to be an easy way to make it more inviting to a larger group of racers, while being more cost-effective (and wife-safe).
