Thanks brian. I know that was crazy trying to post them 3- 4 pictures togather making one big one. I wanted to thank Gary. Great Job on the first day. Getting ready for Day 2. This time I need to make it out there alot sooner. I felt like I was a block away from the starting line.........But it was way fun. Quarter scale guys from Ohio. Was killer seeing them run.

Congrats to all the winners! I had a great time. I've got to get my Stang back together for next weekend--that run in the semi-final where my car thought it was a plane did a little damage. But its cool---it looked awesome 15' in the air. LOL

Here's the first part of my write up. It's the same on that's on the front NEWS page, so if you read that, you can skip this one.. more to come! Sorry it's a little long, but I was excited!

Image

Wow what a weekend! And just when you think things can't get any better, I was involved in the final race that was hyped beyond belief! I'll talk a little about the race here, then I'll post a longer, more detailed list of events in the Midwest RC Drag Forum. First I want to thank everyone who came out and raced, thanks to Jerry and Garry for putting on a great event, Garry did a awesome job on the microphone! Thanks to everyone else who helped out at the track as well! Midwest RC is still very new, and the events are still having the details worked on, but it's really starting to pick up steam and next year is going to be one to remember! In the GIANT group photo there are 95 cars! 95!!!! That is the biggest drag race/event we have ever had in this area! I'd also like to thank all the people that came up to me at the event, told me how much they loved the Big Squid RC site, and to all the people that heard about the event on the site and made it out. It was awesome to see the 1/4 scale folks from Ohio out there, they were a great bunch of people, also it was cool to see a few people I met at the Racine WI race a few weeks back! Hopefully I see you all out there again in the near future!

Ok.. the other picture here is the time slip from what had to be the most hyped race I have ever personally been in. It is going to be talked about by many for a while, and heck, it will probably be the most anticipated/hyped race in the Midwest unless there is a rematch next year. I don't even want to think about how nuts that would be.
So here is the story. When the new Lynwood track opened up just a few months ago, everyone was excited to start putting some real numbers behind all the trash talk. Most of the people had been talking about how great their cars were, and how super fast they all were. Finally we had a timing tree that was going to put a cork in a lot of mouths, and let a few people really shine! The second weekend the track was open, Big Will had decided he was going to come out of semi-retirement and show us newbies what it was all about. Well at first we thought it was all talk, but Will brought it! While everyone was running 2.2+ ET's and getting used to the lights and the tree, Will comes and throws down a 1.97! The first sub 2 second run we had ever had on the track! The next week, I came out and ran a 1.92! Will and I had 1 or 2 more runs that night, I was having some gearing issues and called it a night. I don't think we had raced each other at all that night. It was always against other people, or solo. When I got home, I got a phone call that said Will just ran a 1.91! Doh! I had the record for about 2 hours. LOL. The following weekend, Big Will runs a 1.83! I was sick, and didn't make it out to the track. The next weekend rolls up, and now it's really become a good rivalry! We are both having a BLAST! Every week, just a little faster. Every week, everyone waiting to see who's gonna go home on top. We each had a few good runs, then we both hit a 1.85! Cool, my fastest yet, but will still has a 1.83! I make a few minor gear adjustments, come back out from the pits, run a 1.81!! WOW! You can't make this stuff up! Big Will gave me a good handshake, and told me not to go far. Sadly on the next run he blew his motor. The 1.81 would stick for the week. Now it's the event weekend! I know Big Will has a few tricks up his sleave, but so did I. On Saturday night he came out of no where and ran a 1.66!! ACK! What happened to our little win by .02 stuff? Ok, time to step up! My first run, 1.70! WOW! I'm happy as a clam! Then it hits me, I just had an awesome run, my best and fastest of the year, and I'm .4 away from Will. Will throws down two more 1.6? runs! My next two runs, I strip a gear, and break the pinion shaft on my motor! Uh-oh. Luckily I had a backup, and finished out the night with a 1.73. Good, but not good enough. Sunday morning, I get to the track nice and early and get setup. My first run of the morning, I just about loose a tire down the track. My second run, I strip the spur! That sinking feeling was setting in. Close to 50% of my last few runs have gone wrong. If I can leave the line, it's straight as an arrow, but a lot of times, I'm just not leaving the line! My last qualifying run was SLOW! I just wanted to get down the track.

Ok, now the brackets are set up. It's Big Will on one end, and me on the other! We are going to have to battle our way to get to the finals. Gary did a amazing job on the microphone, and was hyping us up the whole time. He would announce "Brian - Big Squid RC running a Grand Motorsports Top Fuel dragster is now coming to the line, Brian is doing his best to make it into the finals where he hopes to finally run heads up with Big Will!" Later, after Big Will had won his way into the finals, Gary was back on the mic "Alright, lets see if Big Squid can make it into the finals!" After I won and was also in the finals, Gary was mentioning the race after each class would run! He talked about how much everyone has been waiting to see this throw down, and how it's been brewing for a while! I was worried! Here I am in the finals, against my biggest rival, who has been consistently running .4 seconds or better then me ALL DAY! We stepped to the line, the place was silent! I looked around, EVERYONE had stopped what they were doing and was now standing and watching what was about to take place. I was getting dizzy with excitement, and I swear I heard Gary talking about how everyone needed to come watch the race of the century! (Yea, that helped the nerves! Thanks!) The lights fell, yellow, GREEN! Big Will got a BIG jump on me off the line but I was coming up fast at the finish! You can read ALL the times there on the sheet. I was in the right lane with a 1.591! (My fastest time yet!) Big Will with a ET of 1.629! BUT, because of his great reaction time, and me apparently asleep at the wheel, he took the win! AWWW! The crowd went nuts! Everyone was yelling and coming up and shaking our hands. Telling us it was an awesome site! It was a great feeling! I didn't get the win, but it was one hell of a race! I am very happy with having my fastest time yet, heck I skipped the 1.6's all together! I'm also happy knowing when it comes to our ET times, and our battle, I'm in the lead. I can live with that. I need to stop waiting till I see green. :)

Wow.. sorry that turned out a lot longer then I thought it would! Lets hope I don't need a book deal to post the rest of the great events that happened! Check out the forums for more stories!

I just wanted to give a special thanks to all the people that made the long trips this weekend! The Racine WI guys, Pro-Driver Tim Mohr, Mike Ogle of Grand Motorsports as well as the Celina R/C Drag Racing Club and their 1/4 cars! Their site is here.

Wow.. we had people from 5 states to this event! Not bad for the first official Lynwood Event!

It was great seeing all of you out, I hope you had as much fun as I did, and I also hope to see you all again soon! Hopefully next season we can all take turns and get out to events at everyone's locations.

Brian
