Steve,, I was talking about New Era 1/8th scale Funny car as they are the only company making 1/8th scale,, Their 10th scale cars are too heavy...If your thinking 10th scale I'd go with GMS AfterBurner Funny car.....You can see a New Era Funny car in the Drag car Pics posts{{ Bits N Peices}} posted Boxer racing New Era Funny car and a Pro stock Truck....... well if you all dont mind may I add this to the plate, this is a hobby if you have any type of skills just apply... most unsponser guys grab a chassis that they can afford, build on it, learn from it, you might have to start bracket and werk your way up. The more expensive it is the more complicated it gets.Take your time and do the research look over your options, walbern,gms,litespeed,nospeed...newera,ect its a open field...I have a couple of walberns and just like anyone else Paul gets busy and cant keep up so when I order I order 3 to 4 of that item if I have the $$$...thats how I do it.

hey my buddy Steve what most guys do is check out what most of the racers are running and how they r getting down the track then the next thing is what kit is being used finally what motor can go in the car for the most power... these kits have to be set up and balance just like a touring car but in a differnt way, not nocking anybody I called Roy,Mike, and Paul. And Steve you know me, with $$$ in my pocket and the oppotunity is there Im taking it.Well out of the 3 Paul called and I was done with str. racing so we talked for about 2hr on the phone.Everything I ask was answered,He gave me some numbers I called Mark P, Woody, Matt, Billy...They found out my mind was made up to go pro racing, and I knew what class I wanted to be in and what they r running I saw numbers, well the rest is history. Now you know as soon as I got it everybody knew eyes was on me because of this new toy, they wanted to know did I flipped out...oh yeah for speed...you dog gone right now you and everyone else can look at my car make your choice Jason did some of the other guys have GMS NewEra Litespeed etc. but when they dont make it down the 132 we look at that as not being a kit to have...it is just a kit you have to do your own adjusting or look for someone with that some kit thats doing it to help you, info sometimes is hard to get Im here

Oh I have my secrets too , I am on this stinkin computer 6-8 hours a nite , and no its not all pr0n, I am lurking in other drag forums and when I get stumped ,I ask here ....
Question: Long stroke or short stroke . I understand the short stroke for RPM speed , but what are the benies of long ? more torque ?
2 needle or 3 ? If 3 is a set it and forget it , why have it ?
more to come ....

ok, I know I'm late on this topic but I've owned ALL of the above listed cars and when you are ready to go really fast with minimum effort then you guys need to step up to Direct Drive.... The Eric Johnson and LiteSpeed DD cars are the quickest and fastest cars I've ever seen hands down!!! And as far as cost goes a blind man can see the math!

Wow... Way to bring back a three year old "dead" thread...
Thank you guys for the years of support and kind words. I really try to provide the best support possible, with quick shipping, a solid supply of readily-available replacement parts, and, a website where you can order 24-hours through the PayPal shopping cart system.
I was going to try to come up to the Rosemont Convention Center for the Auto show this weekend (Thank you, Rey!) But I have a birthday party I have to do with the kids. Put on a good show for the crowd!

I'm sorry Mike I in no way meant to come off as bashing and I do believe that GMS and Walberns are great cars but when you factor in the cost to build them that 2 speed tranny makes the cars a lil heavy while making your pockets a lil lite. I commend the guys who make them scream (Like Rey, Gary, Rickey, Kevin and Mark P.) But for overall E.T. and ease of total cost DD is for me. Remember the topic is What to buy, that basically asked for our thoughts on the cars. Buy the way, I think you tossed everyones game to shame when you introduced us all to COLORS!!!

Oh, no that's fine... everybody has their favorite cars, that variety is good for the hobby. There's lots of great cars to choose from, Bill Poisso's cars, EJ cars, Urban Assault Cars, Josh Wood's cars, RJ Speed Cars... there's a LOT of guys building great chassis kits these days.
As for the cost, I just tried to include EVERYTHING in the Aftershock Nitro car kits that are extra costs in other brands. Take the base price of any nitro dragster kit, add:
*Graphite Wing Tower *Molded Wing *Lexan Dragster Body
*Alum Servo Mounts *Graphite Brake Disc
*Fuel tank and Throttle linkage kit
*Titanium 6mm 2-speed shaft *ALL graphite or anodized aluminum structure (no replacing plastic bulkheads!)
Tires and Wheels (not included in some kits) *Adjustable rear belt tension *Adjustable rear ride height *Adjustable rear wing angle
High-grade (abec5) ball bearings
...and you make a true comparison of the cost of an Aftershock Kit to other nitro kits. The cost works out to be about the same, but you get it all in one complete package. The Australian guys really LOVE the all-in-one (plus more adjustabiility) kit concept, as they save in not having overseas shipping from multiple sources.
There are some guys trying the "conventional" sidewinder motor mounting cars like the GMS and Walberns without the two-speed setup, just running a single gear. You lose a ton of revolving driveline weight out of the cars that way, and it looks very promising once you get the clutch dialed in.
Again, choose anyone's car kit you want ( I sell components to many of the other manufacturers anyway, LOL), but most important, enjoy the hobby. You Chicago guys are very fortunate to have a fantastic facility like the Lynwood track to race at, count your blessings and get out there and TELL other hobbyists about how cool RC drag racing is! Bring them out to the track once, they'll be hooked for life!
