OK , this is a long one so get some milk and cookies if you must , I will wait for you ............

OK , I own a savage 25 , I didnt like that engine so I bought the R&B 28 for it .
It was a wheelie king for a while , then not soo much , and at present time I think I blew the tranny .Here is why I think that :
I start it ( 2 maybe 3 pulls) and if I apply pressure on the clutch bell I feel it pulling when I rev it up. Spur gear spins but I get no movement from the tires .I did replace the teflon clutch shoes with metal but that shouldnt matter much , just a harder grab .
Now the real question is can I put a Savage 4.6 tranny in a savage 25?
and...
Is the 3 speed worth it ?
I drag race mostly but am also thinking of taking it off road now since my job is in Construction now , and I have some free reign on my time so I can get out and run for a hour or so with no repercussions.
I plan on maybe putting the Lamberto Collari .32 in it later as an option , not sure until I hear I can use teh 4.6 tranny .

thanks guys/gals

steve

I don't know about the tranny.. I'll look into it, and see what I can find out.
As for the 3 speed, I wouldn't bother.. odds are good you won't even hit the 3rd gear till your past you mark on the drag strip. I have a 3 speed in my Genesis, and almost never get there.. especially if you are off road. You are usually flying, or turning.

Did the problem happen right when you put in the new clutch shoes? Maybe you put them in backwards? (Been there done that)

:smacks head: DOH!!!!!!!!! I will try that , infact I think I did do that !!

would worn springs on clutch shoes do the same thing? I have a set of Hyper 8 Clutch shoes and springs I think , I may try those springs on teh Aluminum clutch shoes turned the other way .
I had heard something about changing the direction for better grab or bite on the bell . maybe its an old" urban RC legend " or something , or just playing with the new guy

it wont grab better. and old springs will cause your shoes to constantly rub the cb. witch could cause you truck to not idle, were the shoes prematurely, and burn up your clutch bell.

OK well I changed the position of the clutch shoes and then I I had it idling and going all good on a stand . I put it on the ground and it would have very spuratic throttle bursts , then no control what so ever , if I gassed it it went up if I braked it went even faster !!!! then it peaked out I tried to shut it down , nothing worked ,I didnt want the shrapenal from the piston or crank so I let it fly towards the fence and figured , the heck with it , if the engine blows , it blows , I will replace it . I still have not even tried to pull start it .
Oh well , oh I think I figured out all teh grief I was having is from old fuel , so I need to get some new stuff before I try anything else . No more gallons for me , well atleast I am not going to BUY fuel I will get my free gallon from Geno every week !!!
