Well, somebody finally went and did it... went into full-on production with a quarter-scale funny car like we raced at Lynwood last year. Check out John Foster's "Quarter Mortar":

The origins of this car trace back to 1997 when Jeff Schmidt of Hemet, CA built a few quarter-scale cars out of sheet aluminum, including a long dragster (dubbed the broomstick car) and my first funny car. The cars were light, strong, and not expensive to produce or repair.

I built a second car this way, and Guy Hilleary and his wife drove over a couple years back and saw my project in progress, went back and they built several quarter-scale cars on this principle, adding refinements like an adjustable sliding motor mount.

Then, John Foster saw all this going on and decided to go into production and offer a series of drag cars like these. Look for a dragster version next!

Man, I look forward to the day when we can get an 8 or 12 car field of these racing Chicago-style. Once you buy the car, all you do if feed it pump gas!!!

Wow guys I'm suprised you remembered me,, Well heres the scoop on my builds,, I am a tad behind on all of them,, I am currently relocating my business,, And a friend a I are going to become business partners, We are having a new facility built this summer,, So until we get that all up and in order my 1/4 scale builds are on the back burner,

As it is now,, I have the Trophy Truck prototype almost completed, and will be building the weld jigs from it,, And next in line is the Sandrail/Baja, And i have the print done and will be building the prototype chassis within a few months, lol, Then I will start on the funnycar,,,

Keep in mind guys,, All of our cars will have a fully tig welded chromoly tube chassis,,

I am currently updating all my site pages, so there really isnt nothing on it at the moment,, Although,, I do now have a forum if you would like to join it,, All my building process will now be on my forum!! There isn't alot on my forum yet, I just got it all up and running 2 weeks ago,, But would love to have you guys join,

www.quarterscaleberetta.com/forum

BTW: Mike Ogle & John Foster,, I like your new funnycar,, For a pan car

Perhaps we can all get together and run next year,, This year is out of the question,,

John Quist;; mabye you can swing by indiana next year sometime, and check out my soon to be new Drag car,, It's a 1994 Beretta, that i will be runing in the outlaw class at www.osceoladragway.com YEP You got it buddy!! A real drag car..

Thanks guys!!

Floyd... what year would you forecast that you'll have a funny car ready to go? Probably not this decade, right?

In the meantime, we'll be running our "Pan" cars and having a blast with them.

Did you ever find a reasonable ratio gear rear end for the guys on QSL?

Mike,, Good question,,, Well lets put it this way,, My business if by far more important that these 1/4 scale cars are,, Soo until were all up and on track the builds are on hold,, If all goes as planed I will be starting on the funnycar deign by winter,, In whitch will also be the same chassis as the 32 bantam altered,,'' Go Figure ''

As far as the gear ratios go,, We did locate a few companys over seas that are willin to cut us any ratio needed, BUT!! they need a minium order of 250 matching sets,, At a cost of around 19 Grand,,,And I just wont invest that kind of money in them, Not knowing if there will be enough people wanting alternative gear ratios for these toro gear boxes,, Soo Perhaps..... I will design a gear reduction unit instead,, Whitch can be designed much like a 2 speed tranny with reverse. All of my research & build progress will now be on my forum,, It just don't make since to post all my progress in all these forums,, Soo I guess if you want to follow our progress on all these projects,, You will need to join my forum,,, You can view my forum as a guest, But you will need to be a member to view any of the pictures,

Your new '' Pan'' car looks pretty cool mike,,, Don't get me wrong it really is a nice cheap alternative 1/4 scaler,, I'm just NOT fond of the pan car look!!
