I blew a battery! This happened about 2 weeks ago. It WAS a MaxAmps 4600EP 7 cell. What could I do about this? :?

And yes, I ran it in some water since it was in my new E-Maxx.

SOME water shouldn't be a problem. We've all heard about waterproofing trucks, by sealing the servos, esc, receiver, etc. With the shrinkwrap on batteries, a little water shouldn't be a problem. If you decided to play Boat with the truck, then a battery shouldn't be expected to hold up. By some water, what do you mean? Were you running full speed through deep puddles, just for the fun of the "Rooster tails", or was it an occasional splash through a puddle? If it was just a couple splashes through a puddle, the batteries could have been faulty to begin with. If you were full speed running through deep puddles, water could have seeped through the shrink wrap, and shorted the battery...

A few puddles and some pretty packy, hard snow and thats about it. Ive never been in deep enough snow or water to get into the chassis. But yeah, It has seen some puddles.

Another question, from looking at the pics... Did you tape the 7th cell on like that, or was that the way it comes from MaxAmps? It also looks like there is no shrinkwrap at all on the batteries, or end cap. Seems to me that the batteries should have some protection, even on the chance that they can short out from a stray piece of metal (Body clip, screw, etc.)

Yes, it does have shrinkwrap and an end cap. Look at the end of the battery in the first pic. It has both. And I did tape the battery because the way the cell is mounted makes it more a bit. It shouldnt harm anything.

Not to bring up an old post, but with the announcement of the NEW waterproof trucks coming out from traxxas, I thought it may be a good thread to bring back up to the top, maybe a few more people will see this before they have a similar problem.

I know MaxAmps is starting to ship all their LiPo packs sealed at the wires to protect against this, but as you can see in the above pics, this is not a LiPo pack. Also, even though the packs are waterproof at the wires to prevent water from getting in, the connectors are still a possible point of problem. Even with the new Traxxas plugs or Deans plugs, if they aren't properly connected, or protected in some other way, there is still a possibility of damage.

ANY damage done to a battery or the truck, is no fault of Traxxas, or the battery manufacturer, BUT in my opinion, Traxxas should make a point of mentioning the possibility in their manual, or on the box.

I think MaxAmps should make a point of mentioning that the NiMh batteries arent waterproof.

In an e-mail conversation a few months back to try and re-resolve this issue, I told them that it would probably be a good idea to mention that the batteries are not waterproof in their ads and they said they would get it done that Saturday.

Its been months and still nothing. All I can say is I am pretty disapointed
