I’d like to thank everyone that has participated in the past 11 weeks! The contests were fun, and a great way to help give back to the readers!
We gave away one new vehicle a week for 12 weeks! The vehicles may by nitro or electric and are from the following companies: ARRMA RC, Team Durango, Duratrax, and Thunder Tiger!
IMPORTANT RULES:
To enter, tell us something you like or don’t like about BSRC in the comments below. Tell us what you think we are doing right or wrong. (We’d prefer more right!) Or tell us something you want us to do more of. Or that we don’t do, that we should.. we can take it.. I think. I’ll get Cubby some Kleenex.
ALL entries must be in by 8pm cst. Monday November 5th. And we will announce a winner at 10pm CST. Don’t worry, the winner will still be random from all valid entries.
Because of shipping issues, this contest is limited to the continental United States Only. Sorry. Getting radio and other equipment overseas and across boarders lately just isn’t that easy any more, and costly.

I love the articles, though sometimes lacking in a comments section stinks. I saw Cubby’s article discussing it, and understand, though comments can be restricted to moderator approval on most sites. Is it an option?
I like the battery shoot-outs, especially the blind testing that was done.
I don’t get it you post this on facebook on November 2, but entries had to be made by October 29? Oh well I missed something. Anyway great stuff on this website wish it included more reviews for oval racing but I still get alot of good answers from questions I’ve had getting back into radio controlled from the brushed, NIMH era! Good stuff!

I really enjoy your reviews and shootouts, they are well written and full of useful content but I’d like to see more of them. If you were to change something about your site, I’d like to be able to look at all the pictures related to the article without each opening in a new tab, I’d really like to see the image just enlarge when clicked on, then have the ability to scroll through the images, or at least allow scrolling through the images in the new tab, not one new tab per image.

I would like to see more shootouts, I know theyre probably time consuming but its nice to have truly side by side, objective comparisons.
I agree with “Ragu”. I would like to see more comments on articles. I understand why you aren’t allowing them but the added interactivity with the site would be huge for your site statistics which your advertisers will love.
Second, I would like to see continued followup on the models you test and your daily drivers. If could have a section that has an index of the models you continue to use. Then the drivers could post updates on how they are doing or the mods being done. You could call it something like the BSRC Garage and the posts could be driver journals or logs. I would love to see what some of the behind the scenes guys have to say about their daily drivers and not just a one and done review.
Other than that you guys rock! Keep it up.
i love all the content you put on your site and all the great contest you do. i’d like to see some updated reviews of current gen models like the savage flux and others. after visiting this great website for a couple of years, i think it’s in desperate need of a makeover.

The best thing about BSR is the fact that you are not owned to the manufacturer’s advertising dollars. Too many others out there will give any new rc product a glowing review regardless of the it’s quality or design. Keep up the good work and continue to help the average bash master sort through all the choices out there to find the cream of the crop.
I’ve always been more in to the racing scene, but absolutely enjoy the fact that you guys promote the other 95% of our great hobby – bashing. Over the past few years, I’ve purchased several vehicles that will never see track use – Axial Exo, Traxxas Ken Block Rally, HPI Mini Trophy – at least partly due to reviews or information I read on Big Squid. Thanks, and keep it up!

The only suggestion I have for you guys (other than give me a free Rc already) is to update your review section more often. Other than that you guys do great work I enjoy your reviews and other articles. Oh, perhaps have video links of you guys bashing around with cars your reviewing down with the pictures would be pretty awesome to see them in action, it would give us a better idea of what that car can do.
I like the fact that you guys are crazy enough to beat the crap out of anything you test, regardless of its price. The shootouts are great, and I’m always looking forward to more of them – and the giveaways are just an added bonus. I check the site daily for RC news – keep it up guys!

I appreciate a lot of the reviews you guys do. For the most part, they’re thorough and informative.
I’m glad that you guys do unbiased reviews. My only minor gripe is that everything receives somewhere from 7.5 to 8.5 tentacles. I didn’t do a total average for all your reviews and I may be generalizing but there hasn’t been one review that really sticks out in my mind as something so highly rated that I HAVE to buy it. I’d really like to see the reviews of the things that really suck. I mean the ones that really aren’t worth the time and effort to actually write about.

Great RC site. All of your content is valid and great. I would like to see some more shootouts or How To video’s. Another suggestion might be comparison’s on the different drive trains ie.. Associated’s belt drive to cv shaft’s for 4×4 for racing or bashing which is better, breaks more or more maintenence than the others. How about motor reviews? I am new and this all would be great information. Keep up the great work!
Think BSRC provides excellent unbiassed reviews and think their reasoning, when they give, it on issues is well thought out. Would like to see more shootouts.
I love your LiPo tests, it’s a great format for comparing batteries and determining where the quality really comes from in the industry. Same thing with the Transmitter comparisons, very good information. Perhaps move towards multirotors/FPV? It’s sort of a niche market within an already niche market, but it is slowly starting to gain popularity.
Free RC’s every week are great. You should keep doing it till the end of the year. Keep up with the honest reviews also. Really digging your site.

BSRC is doing a great job they have great forums and I get a lot of great information. Keep up the great work.
The only thing I could think of is if you hold on to a kit for a while do a long term follow up. Some kits will do well for a normal review testing period but over time show failures or faster wear than others. I like that you review kits using an array of testing. Could you post more visual examples of bashing? A little vid or pic of what you mean by extreme torture. Not on every review, but once in a while to give an idea. I also liked the interviews, maybe try to do more if possible.
I think that comments would be great, but I understand the issue of family friendliness. I do however believe that the forum on here would do well if you pushed it. Maybe just mention it’s exhistance at the end of some articles. For example, where you say ‘support your lhs and if you see us out bashing…’ Say a line encouraging some mature discussion in the forum about the topic just presented. It’s my opinion that it would be easier to moderate than the comment section. So, aside from that, I don’t need to tell you guys you’re doing it right. You have been since I started reading over a year ago.

I think you have the winning formula. I check your site multiple times a day. I would like to see more reviews. I tend to go with your reviews because you tell it like it is more the most. Most of the reviews online and especially magazines say every new rc is the best thing, ever scared to piss someone off. Bigsquidrc gives the truth so I would say more reviews. Hey u guys are to cool!!! If i need info i come to your site first & it helps to keep me interested in the hobby. I had to move to Tenneessee to take care of my Dad,and left Indiana. Around Indianapolis ther was a lot going on in R/C, but here there was nothing, until about 4 months ago a guy opened a shop about 8 miles from my house. I was just about to sell all my stuff when the shop opened up, and they r going to build a track behind the building talk about luck!! I think I’ll keep my stuff now.The give aways r just icing on the cake. Too cool!!!!

Thank you very much for the articles you post. I’m an older hobby enthusiast and can’t wait until my son is a little older to get
into the hobby as well. I’ve been reviewing your internet posts for a few years now. I find a lot of benefits from reading your reviews on cars and radios. It’s really great to understand the bashability and quality of a car. With the help of some of your threads I’ve developed an upgrade path for my Axial EXO as well as changing from a Spektrum Dx3s to a Futaba 4PL-2.4G which handles 40 models.Some of the reviews have been an eye opener what I would expect to be a vehicle of a lower quality turns out to be pretty dang good according to the review and I almost pulled the trigger on an ARRMA vehicle myself just recently.

I think bsrc is doing a great job. What I would like to see is a review or feature on some of the race tracks carpet or dirt around the Country.
I like the news-feed style front page. If a person is unable to log on for a few weeks, you can scroll down and keep going back till you’ve seen all the new stuff.
i really cant think of a hole lot you guys could do better just keep doing what your doing/ maybe a stadium truck shootout would be nice.
The battery test comparisons are great. Could do with some more running and testing videos though.

Weekly rant by Cubby about “UFO” classes. We know how he feels, but devoting a weekly paragraph to it gets a little annoying. I often just skip his weekly posts now.
more reviews! funds/manpower/time aside, reading your reviews is a great time waster. ive read em all, some more than once, even if i have no intention of purchasing the vehicle. the quality and quantity of reviews here is second to none.
do want more of cubby’s rantings, especially about the racing establishment and the ‘ufo’ classes. more opinions and conjecture (but not in reviews) also would like to see comments turned on for more posts, although i understand the reasons not to.
also would like to see more predictions/rumors if their are any, or even if you guys (cubby) makes them up. should be interesting reading. maybe different anonymous insider type(s) could get regular posts, to spill some beans or vent about some injustice without fear of being fired.
biggest thing would be more solid axle, scale and crawler coverage. with wraith able to handle some speed and bashing, and all the scale buggies coming out, should be more feasible. i realize that its tough if the bsrc crew isnt super interested in crawling, but it would be nice.
also maybe some shout outs to other websites, videos, forums, etc? rctruckstop for instance is great.

The layout is key to websites anre you’re doing a great job. Redable, easy to navigate, not overly cluttered. All in all, it’s one of the reasons why me and my son enjoy your site.
I liked the pic of the week an vid of the week you guys used to do. Also something that could help the local shops you could do a local hobby shop of the week? Really you guys do a very good job. Club report is awesome.

I’m going to be brutally honest here….you guys are turning into RCcaraction. By that I mean all of your reviews are bogus. The fact that you said the Helion Dominus was great is a testament to that. EVERY OTHER REVIEW SITE said it was a total piece of crap. That’s because they actually bought the car, not sponsored by helion. I want this to be constructive criticism, not bashing, so I won’t go into any more. Thanks for the giveaway, hopefully you’ll take my comments to heart.

I love how you’re giving away 12 vehicles instead of just one! This is the best place to come for the latest rc news, I hope it stays that way! I also love the shootouts.
I think you guys have one of the best, if not the best RC enthusiast site out there. I love your honesty and the way you test products. It may be unorthodox but if a product can stand up to your abuse it can stand up to anything. There are a few things I think you guys should look at to enhance your site.
First, let the pics open up in a new window but give them the ability to be set up as a gallery where I can scroll through enlarged pics rather than having to open up a new window every time. Second, I think it would be cool to do follow up reviews on previous products you still have in your stable. It would be nice to see how they hold up over the long term. Last, I’d love to see more project vehicles where you upgrade them and subsequently test the upgrades. Maybe it would be cool to feature 2 reader’s vehicles twice a month. Maybe this could help get more interactivity with the readers.
Overall, you guys are doing a great job! Keep Bashin’!
Needs more real world reviews. I seldom see a bad review on here. Motor reviews would be good. Maybe do a motor shoot-out similar to your battery shoot-outs.

i found your website very helpful and covering LOADS of topics that needed to be covered that i have a hard time finding elsewhere, good job. but something i think would help beginning people or even advanced people, (i don’t know about the advanced, i don’t know one)make a product list and have your reviews, articles, tests, ect. attached to each one and if you are not wanting to sell the RC’s then just have a link to the site under it. this i think would help people find parts, new vehicles, and anything else they may need. hope this helps you guys, and remember. if you aren’t having fun, your doing something wrong
btw if i missed this list while i have looked and looked though your site (and have enjoyed doing so quite a lot)sorry, also add prices and specs to that list. if you have it.

I peruse the site on a regular basis and sometimes there have not been updates for days. Then others has new post after new post. Spread them out a bit? I do like that BSRC is on top of new releases right away and the reviews are Consumer Reports style where they are purchased and used right off the shelves. Though I have not seen anything extremely harsh where the overall rating is below 8 (which is a “B” in my book).
I love this site, but it would be great to see Maxamps lipos compared in a test.
I know they advertise, but I think most people here trust you to be unbiased. MaxAmps seems to be getting flamed on the forums, and I’m not alone when I say that I want to see how they stack up. Also, SPC seems to be gaining momentum, it would be cool to see them compared.
One last thing, I always look forward to reading The Cub reports!

Being on a limited budget, like most people, I do as much research as possible before a purchase. So, I love the attempt to be as unbiased as you can during shootouts and reviews.

I think you guys are doing great. You have been giving rc news relating current events and new upcoming items. The only thing I would like to see more is more BIGSQUID RC youtube videos. You guys do a great job. Overall Excellent Job!
I would like to see a little more videos. It doesn’t have to be review videos all the time, more of you guys in your element (bashing).
Your reviews are consistently positive, that doesn’t make any sense. The only brand that was disliked was redcat.
Also, for your next lipo review just buy the batteries instead of only reviewing the ones you get send. With that in mind, where are the maxamps in your review. You seem to be using plenty of them.
The more biased you are the more readers you loose, reading the forums it seems that your integrity is often in question, time to turn it around. Also comments will be ok on posts if you moderate properly.. Again, I know you don’t want to piss off advertisers but hey, that’s part of being objective.

You’all do a good job at BSRC. I like being able to go to one site to get most of my RC news. Keep up the good work.
Some reviews need more detail. I was interested in the Monster Energy drift car by HPI, your review was helpful, but upon further investigation, I found several details about the car that I didn’t like, ie: the way the wheels mount, poor placement of steering servo, not as easy to upgrade and modify as the Sprint 2 drift cars by HPI. Things that could have been addressed in the review. Sorry, I’m being overly critical.
Last thing I really really really want, a video with every review, even if it’s only a minute of running. I realize this can be difficult if you don’t have a buddy with you to record, but I think it adds a lot to a review to see a bit of Big Squid bashing video.
But you guys keep me coming back, so you’re doing something right. Viva BSRC!
How bout you release the review for the traxxas drag car and the inexpensive transmitter shootout we have been hearing about, I mean who are you guys, hpi? I.e. love the site.
I think you do a great job at all of your reviews, no suger coated fluff, and I look at your website every morning for the newest stuff out. Maybe do more builds with follow along movies and instructions.
I like your unbiased reviews the most.

I would love to see more reviews. I know they are time consuming but I really like to hear REAL answers about how things perform,good or bad.
WTF is up with the Chubby Report thing? I mean honestly what happened? Could you guys not get some chick on the rag to write it for you so you went with the next whiniest thing you could find? And his face is always blocked? What’s he think? That he’s Wilson from Home Improvement? At least that guys info was insightful and useful, I doubt Chubby could get Tim Allen out of a sticky predicament even if it was r/c related. I think the website layout could use some work, the left pane for “recent reviews” only has a couple of items and then just becomes blank space for the rest of the page.
No real complaints, but offering a video of you beating the $#@%! out of the cars/trucks would help those that rely on your unbiased (your strongest suit on here) reviews on gear to get. I like the written review, but video could add emphasis on what you are saying. Not to mention it would be humorous to watch!

I like the reviews based on how most consumers would use the vehicles, but I don’t like the constant bashing on Traxxas. They do what they do VERY well, just look at the numbers. You should be thankful for them. They have almost single-handedly kept the hobby alive and without them doing that, where would Big Squid be?
The site rocks!! You guys always update your content so I always have something new to read when I visit daily!! Keep up the great work!! And giving back to the readers like this is just icing on the cake!!

I like the product reviews and news. However, I feel the product reviews are sometimes and lacking and do not really tell you if you should buy somthing or not. I know its because you do not wwnat to make your sponsors mad. I just wish someone gave staight up RC reviews.
Your reviews are very informative and clear. The shootouts are also very good as they compare the products based on multiple criterion.
I like that you care about RC and respect it as a suitable adult pastime!

And im a basher so i like how u guys do your reviews you dont baby it u try and break it love the pics u post. But one thing i think would be cool is if u guys uploaded some vids of the bashing u do to the RCs. Other than that Keep up the Good Job.
