THE Cub Report, 03.09.2015, Version- My Posse’s on Broadway

What in the hell is wrong with the racing crowd? Why do I say that? Ok, we already knew the majority of racers have turned into raging a&*hats, but here is further proof. One of our guys (read- Brian) was at a race over the weekend. He went to take some pics, hang with industry types, etc. During one of the early qualifiers Brian was shooting some pics of the action on the track. He wasn’t shooting towards the drivers stand, he was shooting away from the stand towards the buggies/trucks/track area. After the qual was over, one of the drivers came off the stand and gave him an earful on how rude it was to use flash photography during a race. Some background here, yes, it was an indoor track, no, it wasn’t a big name driver, and no, it wasn’t during a main.

And people wonder why their local track has shit for attendance. If racers aren’t complaining about flash photography, they are complaining about the marshals, or another driver not “getting out of the way” fast enough, or it being too loud in the pits, or this turn being too sharp, or that turn being too wide, etc etc etc. Their list of bitches goes on to infinity.

Ok, truth be told not every racer is a flaming a-hole, but too many certainly are. Too many Joe Schmo racers think every time they put their buggy on the track is the final main at the IFMAR worlds for the championship, even if it is just practice or a qual at their local track. Then when the “Bi-Weekly Big Important Trophy Race” comes up, they really ramp up the douche-bag factor.

So here’s the scoop for all you racer types out there- you are racing TOY CARS, nothing more, nothing less. I don’t care if you’ve spent 5 grand on it, I don’t care if you’ve spent 300 hours building it to perfection, you are still racing a toy. Toys exist to have fun, period, that’s why they are called toys.

Don’t believe your B5/22/RB6/KF2 is a toy? Try impressing a chic with it, or harder still, a mother-in-law. Try showing up at your local full scale car race with it and seeing how cool you look.

Hey, playing with toy cars can be great fun, that’s why we all love the hobby so much, but there is no bigger a&*hole than someone who takes them so seriously it makes them yell/bitch/moan at others for no good reason.

Track owners, want to know why local racing is dead? Right here it is in black and white- you’ve got too many a&*holes up on your stand running off anyone with a straight head on their shoulders. You want the truth, here it is, if you want racing to grow you gotta kick the a&*holes off the stand first, end of story.

That’s it for this week, don’t be an a&*hole at the track and support your local hobby shops and bash spots when ya can.
