THE Cub Report – Do You Do Any Tricks?

Well hello there to one and all, thanks for once again joining us for another Cub Report.

Over the weekend we got to hang out near the mecca of rc, Champaign Illinois, for Horizon Hobby’s RC Fest. Last year they held the event down in Orlando Florida, which by all accounts was a success for a first year show. This year it was held in a much smaller metro area, but the Horizon crew did a great job of promotion and got a solid turnout. Perhaps even better still, it felt like it gave a large number of Horizon employees a chance to team build and to spend a lot of time with consumers.

While you might think that the people making all these wonderful products constantly talk to consumers, that isn’t usually the case (unless they are a CSR). Most of the peeps in the industry spend the bulk of their time researching/developing/creating/testing the products that you and I go bash on the weekends, so the employees that I talked to were pretty happy to get a chance to hang out with a lot of first time hobbyists.

By the way, we were stoked when Joe Ambrose, CEO of Horizon Hobby, spent a few minutes with us. Among other things, we talked about some of our reviews. Quite unlike some of the other companies in our industry, Horizon doesn’t go straight to DEFCON 1 if one of their products gets a bad review. It was refreshing to hear how Horizon uses that type of feedback to actually make their products better. All in all, like all the other hard working people at Horizon, Joe left a great impression on us, and left us feeling like he is just as passionate (or more so) about the hobby as you and I.

On a completely different note…

We hope to see you this weekend for our Spring Bash & Smash. We are holding the bash at a new location for us, the HobbyTown USA in St. Charles Illinois. We are charging an entry fee of $10, but don’t worry, we won’t be using it to buy more Dom, all profits will be going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As usual, we’ll have a bunch of different events to compete in, as well as a ton of swag to give away. We cordially invite you to join us for a great time bashing rc cars and hanging with like minded people. The event starts at 11 am CST, see you there!

It is indeed time to wrap up this edition of THE Cub Report. As always, get out and support your local hobby shops and bash spots when you can.
