THE Cub Report – Quadrophenia

Hello there rc people, thanks for clicking over to BigSquidRC. No matter if you are a first day noobie, or have been pulling trigger since the 1970s, THE Cub Report is here to ramble on and on about our beloved hobby of rc.

First up, how about That Podcast Of Ours? Ya, it took a while to get all of our ducks in a row, but it was well worth the wait. RC Newb’s Tim Gluth did a very professional job and is quite good at asking the right question at the right time. Horizon Hobby’s Derek Wagner really opened up on a number of topics. The part of the podcast that talks about the kit version of the ECX AMP was quite enlightening, as were a number of other parts. To get a chance to meet and talk to Derek in person, he will be one of the main people at Horizon Hobby’s RC Fest coming up on June 1st through the 3rd. We are also hoping to get Gluth to RC Fest this year, but we’ll have to see about that one. 🙂

The second edition of the BigSquidRC podcast is being recorded later this week. Gluth has lined up Castle Creation’s Patrick del Castillo. Patrick turned the entire rc world on its ear when he designed and brought Mamba brushless power to the masses. Patrick showed our industry what SERIOUS power was all about, if you are a hardcore basher, you will not want to miss this one. Oh and, my best guess is that the next podcast should go live before the end of the month.

Do you like surprises? Well, we hope so (LOL), because we’ve got a BIG one coming for March Bashness. Voting on our Sweet 16 of bash trucks starts tomorrow. Based on your emails/social media responses, we’ve lined up 16 of the gnarliest bash machines on plant Earth to go against each other. March Bashness uses a basketball style bracket to determine which truck is the favorite among our readers. You vote for your favorite bash trucks to determine the BigSquidRC March Bashness champion! In years past we’ve typically given away the winning truck to one of our readers, but this year we have yet another surprise. We won’t let the cat out of the bag right now, but when voting goes to our Elite 8, it is Really Going To Get Crazy! That’s all I will say for now, so get ready to vote tomorrow on the Sweet 16, and get ready for pure madness when we reveal the Elite 8.

Lastly, a quick word on the upcoming BigSquidRC/STL RC Freaks Mud, Rocks, and Tears scale event (April 7th, in Crystal City Missouri). Things have been coming along well. The crew at the RC Freaks has been doing an incredible job of building a course that is challenging yet fun, and I am still amazed at the venue as a whole. If you are up for a scale event like you’ve never been to before, start planning a trip with your crawling buddies! It looks like we’ll be posting full rules later this week, which I have told can best be described as “G6 Light”.

Oh and hey, lets say crawling isn’t your thing, maybe you are a scale monster truck kind of guy. If that is the case, BigSquid’s Doug Welker is putting on a scale monster truck racing event on April 14th in the St. Louis metro area. Doug has long been an important guy around the BigSquidRC offices with the scale scene, now he is focusing more on the scale monster truck crowd. Full details on Doug’s April 14th event will be posted soon on the Trigger King RC website.

So there it is folks, another Cub Report is in the history books. If you get the chance, drop by your local hobby shop and bash spot!
