For Bashers, By Bashers!
Cubby Optima

THE Cub Report – Version, 4×4=12

Well hello there rc world, with any luck you were able to get outside and enjoy some good weather over the weekend (and get in some trigger time too!). As the picture above shows, the BSRC Bash Crew certainly had a good time, bashing (read- abusing) a bunch of review products and hang’n with lots of good people.

About that picture above… I was really NOT looking forward to doing the review on the re-release of the Kyosho Optima. You see, I remember racing a whole lot of 4wd buggy back in the day, and the thing I remember most is how frustrating that class was. It wasn’t unusual for 10 cars to take off the from the grid and only 2 or 3 of them would finish. If it wasn’t batteries dumping before the 4 minute tone sounded, it was merely tapping a pipe, thus breaking a part. The word “fragile” didn’t do justice to the 4wd class back in the 1980s.

However… the re-release of the Optima shows how much times have changed. Kyosho did a few revisions and the Optima is now a bash worthy vehicle (no I’m not kidding… LOL). We treated our test unit like it was made out of glass in the early parts of our testing, but when it came time to truly test its durability, it proved that while it might look almost identical to the car from the 80s, that it is indeed a different kind of beast that can take some hits and keep on driving. Anyways, I will end the Optima talk here before I spoil the entire review that goes up later this week on our front page, but ya, we were completely blown away by how tough it ended up being (regardless of how it may look in the pic above).

Believe it or not, our March Bashness contest is sorta a big dealio in the industry. We are now down to the final four and they just might be four of the baddest azz bash vehicles ever. The X-Maxx is blowing up like crazy right now, the Slash is a legend, the 5IVE-T is one of the best 5th scalers ever, and the Kraton has an incredible following of seriously hardcore bashers. Who will win? Well, that’s up to you guys, so get your vote on and be sure to let your bash-buddies know to vote for their favorites as well.

Hey, this weekend we’ll be down in Orlando Florida for the Drones On The Horizon event. If you haven’t Heard About It, it is this Saturday and features surface, air and water rc products from Horizon Hobby. You can get some hands on time with many of their products (surface & air) or you can watch some of the best drone pilots in the country get their race on. Drones On The Horizon is free to attend and should be one of the coolest rc events to ever be held in Florida. And of course, when you see us be sure to come up and say hello so we can hook you up with a bunch of Free Stickers and the latest edition of our BSRC Monthly.

But wait, there’s more! Mark your calenders for Sunday April 17th, that’s when our 2016 Bash & Smash is going down in Joliet Illinois. The Bash & Smash is being held at one of the best rc venues in the world and will be an entire day of bashing goodness. We’ll be holding some really cool bash events, plus we’ll even be giving away a brand spank’n new Traxxas X-Maxx! Ya, even if it’s a roadtrip, try to make it, if you haven’t been to one before you’ll learn a whole bunch, plus you just might make some new friends, and you can never have enough of those.

So there ya have it for this week’s edition of THE Cub Report. Get out and support your local hobby shops and bash spots when ya can.
