Losing grip – Christmas is coming

G’day folks! There’s probably no need to remind you, but living on the wrong hemisphere I constantly need to remind myself that Christmas is just around the corner. Ninety to a hundred degrees outside, blue sky, beach holiday, warm ocean waters, playing in the surf – it definitively does not feel anything like December to me.

This Christmas my hobby wishes are to try some new things next year. I think that goes for a lot of us and is what keeps the hobby interesting, constantly tweaking things and challenging ourselves with things that doesn’t actually really matter. If I mess up a polycarbonate body by doing something I haven’t ever done before it’s no big deal. If I fail miserably at work due to trying something I haven’t ever done before, my next pay check just might be my last. Big deal.

Hobby time is cosy time. A safe environment to relax and be relaxed knowing that if shit hits the fan, it will splash on no one but ourselves, and only in tiny amounts. Annoying as it might be, life goes on.

One new thing I want to try is a different airbrush. My Redcat RDS has a great body in the Killerbody Subaru I showed off a while ago, and that with that lid sorted I can take my time painting the next one. I also have a pretty good airbrush (Iwata Eclipse HP-CS), but I would like to try my hands on one that is more geared towards detail work. The Phoenix body I did recently has me itching to push buy skills further. My eyes are set on a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity CR plus, possibly the  Cult of Paint Infinity version. One day I’ll get deeper into the details of airbrushing, for now let’s just say that it’s a lot of fun and something you definitively should consider giving a go.

As far as RC driving goes, currently my time is divided between drifting and crawling. It would be fun to try something new. A Losi LMT might be just the thing to shake things up a bit. It would also require the building of ramps and such, and I’m always eager for an excuse to get my wood working tools going. Back home I could chuck a couple of ramps in a wheel barrow and set up a course on a dirt field fifty meters from our house. Knowing myself, if it’s not easy, it’s not happening. That’s why I’m not doing carpet racing – the local track is too far away from home.

Final wish: the worthy successor to the venerable Axial Yeti I have been hoping for for a couple of years. Now my hopes are higher than ever. This fall saw some very interesting releases in the Element IFS2 independent suspension kit and the Pro-Line Twin I-beam 2WD pre runner suspension kit – are the manufacturers probing the market for something different to all the solid axle trucks out there? If so, will someone take the plunge and release an all conquering IFS rock racer? The offspring of a Losi Hammer Rey and an TRX-4? Please?

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!
