Monster Truck Madness – Buy or Sell?

There’s a saying with boaters- the two best days of a boat owner’s life are the day he buys it and day he sells it. It’s a funny saying and while I’m not a boat guy, I can at least empathize!

I buy and sell a lot of things in regards to my hobbies. Guitars, garden tractors and, yes of course, r/c vehicles. With only a few exceptions do I regret the trucks I’ve sold.

I’ve always been the wheelin’ and dealin’ type, but as my collection has grown I’ve become a lot more mindful of what I buy these days, and because of that I tend to keep what I get. But not everything!

In recent times I’ve downsized my collection some, and in doing so I’ve realized that I’ve been working on a sort of rule that was unbeknownst to me. What’s that rule? If it’s sat for over a year, I’ve no immediate plans to run it, and is worth more than $200 on the resell market, yeah, probably worth moving.

I didn’t have any clue I was working off of this kind of criteria, but in looking back at what I’ve sold or kept over the last few years….that seems to be the case!

In thinking about it, it does make sense though. $200 seems to be the range where it’s worth dealing with FB Marketplace nonsense. Ugh, I so loooooathe FB marketplace. Lowballers, scammers, the incessant traders. No fella, I’m really not interested in your beat up Traxxas Slash and a weedwhacker to trade for a mint modified Clod!

Certain buddies of mine with massive r/c collections give me guff about how I sell a lot of things, but hey, I’m just not one for needless clutter. Not when I can turn those old, non-used r/c’s….into monster truck race parts! Ok, or if I’m being REALLY honest….more r/c’s that I probably won’t use! And such is the cycle of life.

What say you all out there? Are you a collector who never sells your rigs? Or are you the kinda person that shows up to the bash spot/race track every single time with a brand new ride(s)? Lemme know as I’d love to hear from you! Doug at bigsquidrc dot com.

Well folks, it’s another monster truck racing weekend for me. I hope wherever you are out there, you get in some trigger time in the upcoming days!

Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
