Monster Truck Madness – Losi LMT is Getting the TLR Treatment

Hey guys and Happy Thursday!

Just a slow news day in the r/c monster truck world, eh? In case you missed it, Losi announced a limited edition TLR Tuned LMT.

The main specs that differentiate from the RTR version, save for the obvious that this is a builder’s kit that needs electronics and tires to be completed-

– Carbon Fiber Chassis Plates
– TLR shocks
– TLR inspired Servo Saver
– Low CG Battery Tray
– Wheelie bump with flag mount
– Longer wheelbase
– Universal body mounts
– Aluminum Upgrades to include front spindle and carriers; rear toe blocks and 4-link bars

Before discussing the actual truck, this being a release is cool in and of itself. It’s not exactly everyday you see something aimed at the solid axle monster truck racing crowd on this scale, from one of the biggest players in the r/c world. Another example of how mainstream these kinds of vehicles are becoming.

The actual release here is pretty slick. I think if you tally it up, there’s right around $800 dollars in hop-up parts here, so even at the price of $600 you getting a lot of stuff you’d otherwise need to add ala cart.

I particularly appreciate that the axles now have larger bearings to better accommodate the power and RPM that’s being thrown at them, as I upgraded my original LMT to a setup utilizing these. Now you can get them, along with axles sporting machined parts at critical spots, right from the box.

The shocks are now mounted directly to the bottom links which give a more tunable setup that has long been the preferred performance oriented setup for these kinds of trucks.

The low CG battery tray is a very nice option part too. My personal racing LMT was modified with one of these about a year ago and it made a big difference in helping to make the truck less top heavy in the air.

The feel and vibe of this kit is very much that of something you’d get from a smaller batch aftermarket builder, which has long been route the solid axle monster truck racer had to go to get something like this. Now, that builder is Losi direct.

I hit the pre-order button pretty quickly after the truck was announced. I had been looking for a second truck to race in my local club’s Pro Modified division, and while I had planned on doing an Axial based shaft truck….this changed my plans immediately. My original Rotten Apple LMT is going to have a brother very soon.

The trickiest thing about this release will be finding a body to use for it. The wheelbase is stretched to 15″, and that’s a long truck. I am planning to use a JConcepts Chevy Snoop body for it, but we will see how it looks when I get mine built up.

And building mine up, I will do. Look for my build details and impressions of the TLR Tuned LMT just as soon as my pre-order arrives, which according to Losi should be mid-April. After that, it’s going to be a long Summer battling mod Clods, SMT10’s and other LMT’s! I can’t wait!

Until next time, keep it on all 4’s.
