Monster Truck Madness – Marchon’s Monster Truck Racing Slot Car Set from the 90’s

Hey gang, happy Thursday! It’s slow around the office as pretty much everyone is making the trek to Axialfest.

And you know what that means? I can slip something non-r/c related onto the site without repercussion from boss man, who is probably out setting up a trail section in Indiana with no internet service!

This week I wanted to take a trip down memory lane and discuss one of my favorite monster truck toys from my childhood, Marchon’s awesome BIGFOOT vs. Snake-Bite monster truck slot car racing set.

I was lucky enough to get one of these when they came out. I remember seeing it for the first time in the Toys R Us slot car and radio control aisle (truly the most magical place in an already magical store!). This would be 1993, which was actually the year before I got into the r/c hobby!

The Marchon set featured roughly HO scale BIGFOOT and Snake Bite monster trucks, and a track that had a car crush, a hill climb and mud bog (with marbles simulating the mud)!

My brother and I logged a lot of time with this set. So much so that we wound up wearing our monster trucks out.

It’s funny because in my memories of this, the issues we had weren’t the standard slot car-related fare of overzealous kids running cars around corners too fast, thereby slinging them on the floor or nearby furniture. No, it was learning to tackle the obstacles without de-slotting.

The hill climb was actually a hill climb, where the trucks would sometime struggle get up them. The mud pit and crush cars were the killer though, as you had to learn to slow down briefly to get the truck on top of them without hopping off the track! This made for many fun races with my brother.

Instead of more pics, check out this cool YouTube video that gives it an in-depth review.

Oh, what a time to be alive!
