Monster Truck Madness – Rotten Apple Hauler

Hello everyone and a hearty “Happy Thursday” to you!

Last week I celebrated my 40th birthday, and the main gift that my fiancee got me was a new roll around toolbox/workstation for my r/c and scale modeling! In Rotten Apple colors, no less!

It’s really nice because whereas I had one dedicated work bench for my hobby stuff before, now it’s expanded to 3 (when the box is closed, at least!) AND I now have all of my painting supplies and specialty tools neatly stored.

It’s amazing how having an organized work area can make one motivated to work on projects, so while waiting on parts for several r/c related builds I’ve got going on, I decided to finish up my 1/25 monster truck hauler static model.

I wrote briefly about the start of the project here, but the gist of it is that I was trying to a build a classic looking monster truck hauler like what I imagine I could’ve had if I had been a team owner during the golden age of the industry in the late 1980’s.

Now, in that original post I said I was going to use an open air hauler. Since then, I wound up scoring a NASCAR Racing Transporter trailer set that I found on eBay (box seen at top of the page, here). I thought it fit better than a Lowboy.

After building the International Transtar cabover semi tractor and Rotten Apple monster truck, the trailer was very simple by comparison. The paint was also cake, as I used Tamiya Light Gun Metal for the majority of it, with the wheel covers getting Tamiya Candy Lime. Big thanks to my buddy John at J.B. Scale Graphics for the decals!

It’s really turned out nice and I’m quite happy with both the hauler and monster truck. I’m going to find a good spot to display it in my work shop!

I plan to build a JConcepts Regulator Clod Buster in the same style of the 1:25 truck as soon as the chassis kits come back in stock! Look for that soon!

Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
