Monster Truck Madness – Rotten Apple Street Truck

Greetings all and Happy Thursday!

Before we get going this week, a big “congrats” to fellow Squid Jeremy on opening his own hobby shop, Juicebox Hobbies. Make sure to give his page a like/follow! I’m sad that I don’t live closer to partake in that sweet oval track he’s building! Good luck with this endeavor bro!

In other news, I have finally finished my Rotten Apple street truck!

I find it hilarious that after I wound up going through the trouble of masking and repainting the original purple getup that the RC4WD Scottsdale came with, the full body kit was finally released! Dems da breaks, though.

I painted the body in Tamiya Primer and then hit it with several coats of Tamiya TS-42 Light Gunmetal. My wheels, which are Injora 1.55 metal bead locks, were painted TS-52 Candy Lime. FYI, the tires are RC4WD Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac 1.55″ 4.19″ Scale Tires, and they fit just OK on the Injora’s. I’d recommend you stick with RC4WD wheels for RC4WD tires.

The graphics on the side were made by friend Michael Arndt and printed by JB Scale Graphics. These were originally done for my monster truck fleet, but I’m going to start adapting all of my new vehicles with this style of look!

I’m pretty happy with how the truck has turned out so far, but there shall be changes!

First off, while I’m happy I tried the 1.55 look, I plan to go back to the original 1.9 stock wheel and tires. I like the footprint more than the smaller setup. I do plan to paint the wheels green, though!

Outside of that, the only major thing I plan to do in the immediate future is add the RC4WD Roll Bar. I ordered mine back in September but it’s still on backorder. I think getting that installed will be the final piece I need to nail the ’80s vibe that I want!

These pics were shot on a brief trail run I took the truck on, and let me say that I forgot how much different you have to drive a leafer. And yes, I did cringe at my first big scratch. I guess it’s best I get it out of the way.

So that’s one project finished, at least for the time being. On to the Konghead!

Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
