Redcat Releases its Next-Level Crawler: The Ascent Fusion

Wow. That’s about all I can say regarding Redcat’s recent R/C releases. For the past three weeks, they’ve unveiled some ambitious products, and their latest is no different. If you’ve had your eye on a low-cost crawler that has performance packed inside of it, you’ll want to turn your attention to the Redcat Ascent Fusion.

Redcat has taken its Ascent 1/10-scale crawler platform and amped it up to create a low center-of-gravity crawler that’s both lightweight and powerful with plenty of added “extras”.

Featuring a 3mm carbon fiber flat rail chassis, the Ascent Fusion sits low and offers an array of optional shock mounting locations (front and rear). Its redesigned aluminum diff covers allow for maximum steering travel at full throw, so you can get as much motion as possible when tackling a tricky course.

Additional chassis details include portal axles with brass outer covers, giving you plenty of weight to keep the Ascent-18 planted. While the shock design is the same as what’s included on the standard Ascent, the rear shocks don’t have internal springs, allowing for more overall movement.

There are several red anodized parts sprinkled throughout the Ascent Fusion, that, when combined with the black cab-only body, give this rig a menacing and aggressive look. The front and rear bumpers are made from steel and feature a black finish. Their narrow width should cut down on hang-ups while crawling and both front and rear bumpers have cut-outs for running winch lines and adding a fairlead.

An 1800kv Hobbywing Fusion RTR 2-in-1 brushless motor/ESC serves as the power plant for this rig, offering smooth performance and incredible low-throttle crawling.
