Big Squid RC - XXX Main - The DVD Review

If you haven't heard of XXX Main, this must be your first day in 'RC'. Not only have these guys been around a while, they are everywhere! If you ever used a paint mask, it was probably a XXX Main mask. If you have never seen a XXX Main video, I'm not sure you can call yourself a basher! When I saw my first XXX Main video (On VHS! Kids ask your parents what that is.) I thought to myself, "hese guys know what's up!" The stuff they were filming was stuff I was doing. It wasn't all about just racing, it was about having a good time. It was like they were capturing the true lifestyle of RC. They have their share of pro-racers for those that like to see some of the big names. It's funny, Tebo looks like he's about 12!

Ok, enough intro, lets get to the good stuff. This is a review of the DVD version on their first video called XXX Main the DVD. It's about 40 minutes long, with 20 minutes of extra bonus footage. Watching the opening scene brought back some good memories of the first time I saw it. Just seeing someone drive an on-road car around on city streets brings a smile to my face. After the opening scene, we start to get to the action, and the DVD has plenty of it!

One of the things that I like about the video is that it's not just buggies, or on-road, or monster trucks. It's everything and anything. At any given moment, it will change up what your watching, and cut from racing, to bashing, to just plain craziness.

When it comes to RC DVD's, there are a few standard items that I expect the movie to have. Off road action, Check! On road Action, Check! Fire and fireworks, Check! Skate Park action, Check! Girls, Check Check!

Now I know what your thinking, most RC videos have that stuff, and you know why? Because XXX Main did it first, and they did it right! I have to admit that I don't remember all the foul language being bleeped out of the tape, but it's no big loss.

The music is all pretty fast and heavy, but all good. There really aren't any songs that make you want to turn the volume down. It's not a large variety of music, it's all heavy.

One of the only downfalls of this video, is that sometimes it seems like you have seen the same shot a few times. The video is compromised of dozens and dozens of RC clips, but some of the clips, or parts of them are used in other places. So you might see a Serpent race in the first scene, and then in the third scene you'll see it again, maybe at a different point in the race, or from a different angle, but it will look familiar, and this can be a little annoying. Not enough to take away from how good the movie is, but it's a point I thought I should make. The bonus footage is nothing special, there's an Inside RC interview with Jeff, some raw footage, and a trailer for XXX Main 2! (Which I will be reviewing in the very near future.)

Did I mention it had girls?! The original video is a few years old now, (at least 6) so some of the stuff may look a little dated, (like a young Adam Drake!) but for the most part, it's a classic RC video that belongs on your shelf! It's also easy to find cheap in your local shop, or online, so if you don't own this video on DVD, run out and pick it up, you owe it to yourself!
