Big Squid RC - XXX Main Squared - The DVD Review

January 13th, 2007 - Brian

So by now, you must know who XXX Main, if not from their popularity in the RC basher scene, then from our last review of their first video. (Which you can read HERE). Ok, if we haven't lost you to their other review, then welcome to this review. It's for another classic RC video called XXX Main Squared. (picture a little 2 here). Just like the first DVD, this one is filled with all sorts of great RC footage, girls, cars, and wackiness. The video quality on the DVD is great, and I'm very happy to be able to replace my worn out copy on VHS.

I had bought this video a few years ago, and had forgotten all about the way it started. There's this girl who looks like she sneaks into some underground facility that's just jammed with all sorts of RC stuff. It's pretty much your standard RC work shop, but for some reason they forgot to install any lights, so it all takes place by flashlight. They show some sponsor names, some logo's in some naughty places, and they even have her start up a on-road vehicle on a starter box. I would bet hard cash that says this was the first and last time she has ever done this. ;)

In what has become the 'XXX Main' way of doing things, the video is cut from tons and tons of RC footage, that we get to see small snips of throughout the video. For example, if they went out and shot 20 minutes of a RC car racing a real car, we get to see 3 seconds here, then 2 seconds sometime later, then maybe 10 seconds in the middle. I have no problem with this, it's done very well, and cut to the music. I'm just saying that this has become the 'norm' for them, and it works very well. I like the fact that they have a RC Viper painted the same as the full size Viper.

XXX Main Squared covers all the standard RC video basics. Just as in the previous videos, they have a lot of RC experience, and filming experience, and it shows.

Just as in their first video, there are plenty of girls. I have to say that the quality has gone up quite a bit. My guess is that they went from talking their sisters into standing there, and jumping into pools, to actual models. No complaints here. The music is still very good, and up-beat. It's not all heavy this time around, but still good and fast!

One scene that still makes me giggle every time I see it, is the shot of Josh Cyrul, pulling himself on roller blades behind his 1/8th scale buggy! They show him whipping around a few corners, and it's really fun to watch. I'm willing to bet Jeff and gang were just dying to see him wipe out. It's really the only thing that could of made the shot better.

On to, what might be the most famous RC video on the planet. The House Jump! If you have not seen this video, pick up your keyboard, smash it over your head, and get out to your local hobby shop and buy this DVD! This clip has been all over the internet, and is awesome! Look at the air he gets in this shot! The most amazing part about it, is that he hits 2 of those little black bike ramps at top speed, from a rough angle. The driving skill to hit that ramp from that turn, at that speed is just amazing. The fact that he makes the house jump is icing on the cake! I won't ruin how it ends, I'll let you find out yourself when you watch the DVD!

To wrap things up, the XXX Main DVD's never seem to disappoint. Racing footage, parties, bashing, and stunts, it's all here! There are a ton more great scenes in the video, I don't think I need to do a play-by-play here, just take my word for it, and see it for yourself! XXX Main THRE3 was just released, I'll have a review shortly, but make sure to pick it up when you are at the shop! You will be very happy you did!!
