Small Crawler Power Boost: Redcat Ascent-18 Scout II Brushless RTR
If you’re packing for a summertime camping trip and want to bring some R/C fun with you, nothing beats a 1/24 or 1/18 crawler. The folks at Redcat have been putting a lot of effort behind their Ascent-18 platform and now have a brushless version for those who want even more power for their tiny truck adventures.
The Redcat Ascent-18 Scout II Brushless RTR takes the impressive performance of the Ascent-18 Scout II to another level with a 3450kv brushless outrunner motor that should provide super-smooth performance, especially under low throttle input.
For on-the-fly tuning, the drag brake on this 1/18 rig can be adjusted on the controller, so you can make performance tweaks without having to pick your truck up and pop the body off.
In addition to the powerplant upgrade, the Redcat Ascent-18 Scout II sports a redesigned front axle with an impressively increased turning radius. Along with the steering performance improvement, the “High-Steer” front portal axles offer increased ground clearance to help you clear trail debris and obstacles.
Of course, there are some cosmetic differences between this brushless model and its brushed counterpart. For starters, the lights can be turned off and on from the transmitter, allowing you to choose when to have illumination on the trail. In addition to that, the Ascent-18 Scout II features two new body colors, Red and Gold Dust, each with a “Brushless” lower door decal.
