Ya know, the craziest thing happened when I was going to modify my recently built Tamiya Clod Buster Black Edition into a long wheel base retro racer- I decided that I wanted to keep it at the stock wheelbase and slap on some dual tractor tires to go hard after some mid-80’s vibes. Our monster truck club was kicking off our [...]
How is it that I’ve been writing for Big Squid for about 7 years now and not done any kind of review/impressions/discussion of a box stock Tamiya Clod Buster? Well friends, after building and bashing my new Tamiya Super Clod Buster Black Edition, that egregious oversight ends today. Here’s a mini-review- The Build To complete the Super Clod Buster, you will need [...]
What exactly is a “Retro Monster Truck”? That’s the question that’s become the topic du jour within the solid axle monster truck community as of late. For this week’s MTM I’m going to try to explain to the uninitiated as to why it’s a topic, and then, probably against my better judgement, give my .02 in response to the question. So, a [...]
The best way to beat the quarantine blues? A new build! Not just any new build, but a Tamiya Clod Buster, my favorite r/c of all time. I’m not actually sure how many Clods I’ve built at this point, but I’ve done a good number of them. I’ve never really detailed a build throughout the process, though. Now’s the time. Clods are [...]
Me being me, I’ve gone back and forth over the last couple months on whether to pull the trigger on one of those “new” limited edition black Tamiya Clod Busters. Daddy needs to build another retro monster truck! With the kit coming in under $300, the price is appealing. However, I’ve managed to resist thus far though and probably won’t be [...]
Classic kit re-releases seem to be everywhere these days, but there is one kit that I’ve been waiting on for years to see the light of the day again. A vehicle that if released in the near future at a semi-reasonable price point would do VERY well at the retail counter, methinks. The Tamiya Juggernaut II. Before talking about why I feel [...]
Greetings, o ye of the monster truck faith! This weeks Monster Truck Madness is a day early and a tad different, as I have an event report for you versus the standard blog post. The JConcepts King of the Monster Trucks event was held this past weekend at Vinyl Images in Fenton, MO (just outside St. Louis) and wow, what a [...]
Leaving a camper around monster trucks is never a good idea, whether 1/10 or full size. My nephew and his buddies rescued an old pick-up bed camper awhile back, and they left it next to our r/c monster truck track on a trailer. I’m sure they thought it was a safe place to put it. Think again! As soon as we arrived [...]
Last weekend was a big one in the world of scale monster trucks as the 4 Link Nationals took place in Circleville, OH. Sporting a massive turnout of trucks, drivers, and manufacturer support (Axial, Pro-Line, Tamiya, Parma, Spektrum, RC4WD, Castle, and JConcepts), the solid axle monster truck scene is as healthy as it has ever been. But I’m not here to talk about the event as, [...]
