The Backyard – Come Race Monster Trucks at BIGFOOT 4X4 Open House!
Happy Friday and welcome to The Backyard!
Well folks, it’s almost that time again—BIGFOOT 4X4 Open House is just around the corner, and once again the Trigger King R/C crew will be there putting on our annual solid axle monster truck racing event!
This year’s event takes place on Saturday, June 13th, and if you’ve never made the trip out to BIGFOOT HQ in Pacific, Missouri before, it’s a pretty special experience for monster truck fans. You’ve got full-scale monster trucks, the museum, vendors, all sorts of cool stuff going on… and of course, a whole bunch of us nerds racing tiny monster trucks around in the parking lot.
As always, we’ll be offering multiple classes including:
Retro
Sport Mod
Pro Mod
Open Class
Show-N-Shine
And this year we’re also planning to add an additional JConcepts Reactor class as long as time permits, which should be especially interesting given how much buzz that platform has generated lately.
The Reactor class will follow the official JConcepts Reactor Cup rules, and I’m very curious to see what kinds of builds people show up with!
Note that Reactors are legal in the main Retro class as well, so this will be a second class for them. Drivers don’t have to just pick one or the other.
Needless to say… I’m excited.
Now, one thing to note this year is that the Trigger King R/C portion of the event will be located in a different area than previous years. We’ve already posted maps and parking information over on the Trigger King Facebook page, so definitely make sure to check those out ahead of time if you’re planning to attend.

As for the racing itself, we try to keep things fun and straightforward. The Retro, Sport Mod, and Pro Mod classes are all built around different eras and styles of solid axle monster trucks, while the Open Class is exactly what it sounds like—any truck that would be legal in any of other classes is fine.
A few quick notes worth mentioning:
Racing classes are limited to one entry per person
Racing entries are $10 each
The Open Class and Show-N-Shine are free with paid entry of another class
Show-N-Shine is limited to two legitimate 1:10 solid axle monster truck entries per person
Freestyle will not be offered this year

I know some folks will miss freestyle, but these events are a balancing act and we want to squeeze in both the Open AND Reactor racing classes while still not being mega rushed. Sometimes you’ve gotta make tough choices to keep the overall event experience solid.
One of my favorite things about this event every year is how varied the field tends to be.
You’ll see pristine retro Clods parked next to heavily modified race trucks. Some guys show up with meticulously scale-correct builds, while others roll in with trucks that clearly prioritize speed over realism. And then there are always a few vehicles that make everybody stop and go, “Okay, now THAT thing is cool.”
As for me? Well, assuming everything goes according to plan, I should have my own JConcepts Reactor ready to go by then. The build is basically done and I’ll be sharing the final details of that soon.
Anyways, if you’re within driving distance and have been thinking about checking out a solid axle monster truck event—or if you’ve got a truck sitting on the shelf collecting dust—consider this your excuse to come out and join us.
We’d love to see you there.
Until next time, keep it on all 4s.
