The Backyard – King Haulin’ Update
Hey every, happy Friday! Welcome to The Backyard!
A few weeks back I wrote about the start of a Tamiya King Hauler project. The truck is now done, so I wanted to share another update!
Well, done isn’t the right word. This stage of the build is done, at least! I am ecstatic with how it’s turned out.
If you want all of the details as well as to see some running footage of it, I’d like to plug the following YouTube video- I launched my own channel a couple months ago and I’d appreciate a like and sub!
I shot and uploaded that video around a month ago, and I do have some updates on the project since then. The King Hauler hasn’t changed much, save for chopping the hanging license plates off the front bumper. I also picked up a metal fifth wheel for it.
My focus has been on what’s going BEHIND the King Hauler.
I picked up a Hercules Hobby Pipe Flatbed Trailer and have been taking my time slowly building it. It comes as a completely disassembled kit, and there is a surprisingly large amount of assembly that goes into it. It’s also taking a little longer than it would normally as I have been priming and painting several aluminum bits of the trailer as I’ve gone along, as I want it to match the green of the tractor.
One of the last steps of assembly involves placing actual wooden planks onto it, which form the flatbed. The planks are very light in color, so I’m going to pick up some dark stain and brush them first. This will be the first time I’ve ever had to mess with wood stain on an r/c project, so I’m kind of excited!
I had trouble finding information about the Hercules Hobby trailer before buying it, so when I’m finished I plan to do a write-up on it here.
Look for another project update early this Summer, when I hope to report back after the King Hauler hits the trail for its first, erm, haul.
That’s it for me this week! Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
