The Backyard – Ready for Race Day
This week’s Backyard is going to be a quick one because I’ve got a busy weekend ahead.
First off, if you’ve been following along with my JConcepts Reactor build, Part 2 of the build series is now live. I’ll drop a link right here for anyone who wants to check it out.
It’s kind of funny how quickly this project went from something I was endlessly planning and overthinking to something that’s now sitting on my workbench fully assembled and ready to race. If you’ve read The Backyard for any length of time, you know I can spend an awful lot of time thinking about a project before actually doing it. In this case, things moved along pretty quickly once the kit arrived.
I’ve only got limited drive time on the truck so far, and while initial impressions are mainly positive, I want to get some actual competition laps on it before making any grand proclamations. Once I’ve had a chance to properly race it, tune on it, and spend some time behind the wheel, I’ll put together a more comprehensive write-up with my thoughts on how the Reactor performs.
Which brings me to this weekend
The annual BIGFOOT Open House takes place Saturday in Pacific, Missouri, and the Trigger King R/C crew will once again be putting on our solid axle monster truck races. We’ve got Retro, Sport Mod, Pro Mod, Open Class, and a Show-N-Shine!
It’s always one of my favorite events of the year because it brings together a little bit of everything—monster truck fans, racers, builders, collectors, and plenty of folks who are just curious about what we’re doing.
If you’re planning to attend, please stop by and say hello! You’ll find me behind the computer and microphone helping keep the racing program moving throughout the day.
And if you’re bringing a truck to race, even better.
Hopefully by this time next week I’ll have some race results, some Reactor stories, and maybe a few lessons learned from putting a brand-new truck through its first competition outing.
Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
