Traxxas Announces Title Sponsorship of TORC, THE Off-Road Championship Series

Plano, TX — Traxxas®, The Fastest Name In Radio Control®, announced that the company will be the 2009-2011 series title sponsor of TORC, THE Off-Road Championship Series. The series will be referred to as The Traxxas TORC Series™ or THE Traxxas Off-Road Championship Series, and will feature the best drivers and most competitive teams in short-course racing on tracks across America. Race fans will be able to enjoy the action at home with national network television coverage beginning in June 2009.
Traxxas is the world’s leading manufacturer of hobby-quality radio control vehicles, with models ranging from affordable electric cars to engine-powered, nitro-burning monster trucks that represent the peak of technological sophistication. Most recently, Traxxas introduced 1/10 scale short-course racing trucks to the radio control marketplace with the electric Slash™ and fuel-burning Slayer™ models. The new category has already proven tremendously popular among R/C enthusiasts and short-course racing fans alike. Traxxas has entertained thousands of race fans with a popular “Try-Me Track” program that allows race attendees to take the wheel of a Traxxas Slash. As the title sponsor of TORC, Traxxas plans to continue the Try-Me Track program and add more radio-control demonstrations and giveaways at all the TORC events. Watch the Traxxas website for more information.
Traxxas owner Mike Jenkins is enthusiastic about the season ahead. “We are proud to support THE Series that will truly bring all off-road short course racers together under one sanctioning body. Finally we have the West Coast and the Midwest together as a national series that provides a strong foundation to expand to other parts of the country in future years. TORC offers Traxxas and other sponsors the best racing series out there with soon to be announced nationally broadcast television coverage. In addition, Ricky (Johnson) and Mitch (Covington, of TORC) have earned the confidence and support of both The Sponsor Group and The Professional Drivers Group.” As a driver himself, Mike is also looking forward to experiencing the series from behind the wheel of his number-47 Traxxas Pro 4WD machine. “You can expect a little West Coast influence on the track design of Crandon [Crandon International Off-Road Speedway in Crandon, WI] this year. Viewers and spectators alike are guaranteed some new sections, jumps, and passing areas. The racing is going to be fiercely competitive. Traxxas is proud to join up with TORC to bring this unequalled racing excitement to a national network audience at every race weekend.”
The Traxxas TORC Series brings together the best of Midwest short-course off-road racing with exciting new west-coast venues. TORC has exclusive rights for premier events at legendary tracks such as Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, WI, and Bark River International Raceway near Escanaba, MI. Currently a total of eight points-race weekends plus one sportsman weekend are planned. The season kicks off May 15, 2009 at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona.
